Out of school 2 years and needing NCLEX help

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I graduated nursing school 2 years ago. I sat for NCLEX 3 unsuccessful times. The last time was a year ago and I haven't looked at material since then. Because I did the Pearson trick and it accepted my credit card payment, rather than lose $200 without trying, I reschedule to take the exam the last possible date I could, early April. I've always felt I was failing due to lack of content knowledge. So since I haven't studied in a year, I've definitely lost content. I'm beyond overwhelmed going through school notes. They're helpful but I'm stressing out over my time frame to study. I'm afraid I'm not going to get through it all and be prepared for the test come April 12th. I've gone through a hurst review book and taking questions through PrepU. Is there anyone else that's been in a similar situation as me and can give me some advice? Thanks for any help

I'm not even really sure what to tell you. You took a year off and studied absolutely nothing. Perhaps Hurst or NCBSN? I really don't know. :\

same here, graduated nursing school 7years ago, failed nclex twice. I'm stressing out and feeling depressed, but i know i have to try it again until i pass. I'm planning to go back in our country and enroll in a 1month comprehensive review, i know i lack in content and i really need that. Nclex is really tough, q & a's are not enough, we need to review the content. I wish we could pass the next time we take nclex. Goodluck to us..

Good luck!

What did you use to study for the first 3 exams? Hurst? You may need some time applying the content to the nursing questions instead of cramming content. There need to be an opportunity to "use" the content and the only way to do that is practice test questions.

If you're taking early April, that means you have at least a month to study. Review content and practice test questions daily...75/day minimum. Try UWorld test bank and NCLEX Mastery App. Take pretest, study by system, practice questions by system, etc. After systems review, practice questions you got wrong and take mixed test bank questions. Review all rationales whether you got hem wrong or not.

Set up a day-day study schedule/calendar and commit yourself to it. I've been out of my program a lot longer than you. Never sat for my boards but will finally take my test end of March.

Good Luck You'll make it.

I'm in the same boat ... The last time I sat for the NCLEX was October 2008 and it was my 3rd failed attempt. I am now ready to sit down and focus on passing the NCLEX. I've started studying using Saunders for contents and my oh my how I'm able to now put the pieces together and it feels awesome. I have to take a remedial course in Florida in order to be eligible to sit for NCLEX again. I found a school and spoke to the professor and will be starting soon on the Theory portion. Then I'll be doing the clinical portion. I've been using NCLEX mastery and I love it because the rationales are great and makes me understand where I went wrong. I will also be including U-World in my studies. I'm taking my time and making sure I understand how to answer the questions because I definitely see where I went wrong in the past and I pray that I pass this time around. I probably will not sit for the boards til around October or November. I know it's a long way from now but I am so motivated and ready to be in my career and do what I was meant to do. Good luck to you guys!!!! [emoji5]️[emoji5]️

How long have you been studying? @bizybee

Since mid January. I read more forums after I posted this and saw one person give their strategy after basically being in the exact same situation I am now. Remar quick facts review for content; Kaplan NCLEX premier; uworld; PDA book; Saunders questions. Uworld and PrepU seem a lot alike. I ordered the remar book today and have the Kaplan book to go through. Will probably rent the PDA book in a couple weeks. This is my strategy at this point

Oh yes I want to get the LaCharity book as well ... Your strategy sounds really good just stay focus and make sure to read all rationales whether right or wrong. I've also been googling any words I do not understand in the questions and that has helped me a lot.

Just started this week but I have my resources and schedule in place that i'm using. I didn't want to risk studying too long and getting bored with it. So, I'm anchoring down so I can nail this test when i take it.

Yea I hear you ... I wish I could take it in 3 month but Florida requires a remedial course which is normally 8 weeks or more long ... Wishing you guys great success on your NCLEX and can't wait for all of us to post our PASSING story
