NCLEX-RN 2014 (Passed on 2nd Attempt)

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello all. Just wanted to share my experience in hope that it may help you. Failed the nclex-rn on my first attempt with 75 questions. I thought that my mind was still fresh from nursing school, so all I did was review some content for about 2 weeks. I was a nervous wreck the day of the test. I did not take my time and bombed it. I was devastated for a while. Took a month off from studying.

I decided to enroll in Kaplan on demand. Watched a few videos and told myself that there was no way I was going to watch them all. I'm just not that kind of learner. But I did hear that the videos are very helpful. Did all the qtrainers (twice) and finished the qbank. My scores were: diagnostic-66 and readiness-58. Qtrainers were from 53-64%. Finished the qbank with 64%.

I read the Kaplan rn course book from cover to cover. Read over the pharm section 3 times. Sometimes used Saunders as a reference. I read this study guide [COLOR=#003366]https://allnurses.com/attachment.php?...7&d=1310076980 about 20 times. Wrote all the labs on flashcards. Studied the notes that I took from all of the Kaplan rationales. For 3 weeks I did 100 questions a day. Read every rationale. Prayed 2-3 times a day.

The day before the test I asked the good Lord to help keep me remain calm. And he did. I had a nice breakfast, went to the gym, went to the theater to watch a film, came home and prepared a nice dinner. Read over the study guide and went to bed early.

Test day: nice breakfast, push-ups and sit-ups. Was pretty calm walking into the exam. TOOK MY TIME reading the questions and answers. Passed with 89 questions.

My advice: be dedicated to your study, eat healthy, exercise and pray.

Best of luck to all

P.S. I didn't bother with the Kaplan decision tree.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats happy for u :) did u find out any similarities between Kaplan and nclex question ?

@ chesca19 and Nikki

thank you for congratulating me. On this 2nd exam I had a lot of SATA questions, several meds and towards the end I was drilled with priority questions. I had 1 chart and a couple of nursing theory questions. It was strange bc I did not have 1 single med calculation and not 1 diagram. Very little OB/Peds. Keep in mind that every test is different. I heard they take questions from a pool of about 3000 questions.

Kaplan & Nclex: to be honest I didn't think the questions were similar. But I do believe doing Kaplan questions everyday, reading the rationale and taking notes was KEY! Kaplan questions definitely helped me with priority questions along with safety and infection. By doing the questions I was able to see a pattern.

Be diligent with your study plan. It's a sort of hell but all worth it in the end. Maintain your brain cells and keep yourself healthy(food, exercise and sleep).

Hope this helps

Thank you for your advice Phil25!!!! I'm doing saunders.. and Kaplan..
