My Tips On Nclex Examination: Just Passed Mine

A little about me...

I am an ESL student and been working as LPN for about 4 years in a nursing home. I finished mine RN course in may 2013 and took mine nclex Rn for the first time on 6/25/13 but I didn't make it at that time. I knew I didn't make it, when my test shut down after question 75. I was not really prepared at that time because I only did NCSBN Learning extension 1000 questions and may be about 700 Saunders questions.

The sources are good but I was not paying attention on my preparation. When I was taking my NCLEX for the first time I was rushing into questions (not trying to make excuses for my failure). I had a lot of infection control questions and priority but no idea how to answer them. At this time of my preparation I had a lot internal and external distractions...like friends and Facebook.. So after the test I did the PVT it took me straight to the payment page...found out I failed and did not really surprise me.

Even though some students pass NCLEX without studying for it but that is not me (that is what they say).

I did not wait too long after I found out I failed, I was on Google to find out what & how to study then I found out this website (allnurses.com).

So the first thing I did was purchase the LaChartiy book of DPA and Kaplan on-demand. I also got the Lippincott Q & A and the last 5 comprehensive test from end of the book...very good book...I like it better than Saunders.

I started my studying in about 3 days. I was paying attention to everything and look up anything I can not understand. I studied for about 2 months on average of 4hours per day for 6 days a week . I did all the Kaplan resources and all the Lacharity questions case studies.

I spent a lot of time on this website "random fact throwing". I highly recommend at-least the Lacharity book and this "random fact throwing" (if you can't afford Kaplan). Thanks to all who contributed to the random fact throwing ... it was very helpful on my 2nd attempt of NCLEX especially on all the questions of infection control.

I did all the 265 questions ... a lot of teaching questions ... conference questions ... and I count 54 SATA question ... 1math..meds..priorities..2ECG...3 DRAG & DROP ... 5 scenario questions (full patient history). I got all kind of question but I was not worried and I knew I was doing well.

VERY IMPORTANT... stay calm and sit with confidence when you sit for the exam...avoid any kind of distraction that you may have while preparing for NCLEX ... as much as possible...do something fun a night before...look up understand anything you don't know or you might forgot.

Prayer helped me a lot too.

Good luck all future nclex takers! ALSO the PVT trick worked for me.

I hope this will help at-least one person.

Now I need to give time for my wife(she wasn't happy that I went to the theater with out her and watched the" butler" a night before my test because she was at work) & my kids.

What did you mean by random fact throwing? Was it worth doing the case studies in LaCharity?

type in random fact throwing in the search button on this website and it should bring the link for you. t has about 400 pages and I did read about 200 pages. It made things sticky for me so I can apply it when I took NCLEX and I did. The other best thing is also to do as many as questions that you can get. I WILL SAY ALL SOURCES ARE GOOD as far as we understand what really each question is about. Most of us can't answer each question right but we learn how to answer nursing care questions. Try to understand what the question is regards to patient care about. Is it beneficial to the care of the patient? Is it a safe nursing practice?...some like that. If you have the Lacharity book and if you have the time...it does not hurt to do the case studies and I believe it won't be wasting your time. Also if you have the Lippincott Q & A book it is a very good book for content review...Good Luck to all NCLEX takers!

For the last week of my preparation for NCLEX I did Kaplan Q trainer 6 & 7 then I did the comprehensive tests on the end of Lippincott Q & A...they look alike to the real NCLEX examination. also in between doing those tests I been reading "the random fact throwing" thread...on the random fact throwing participants also talk about their nclex experience so it was also helpful...the day before the exam I recommend to do not do any heavy studying...I only spent some time on the random fact throwing because we need to save the energy and the focus for the big exam. Try to avoid working if possible just to focus on preparation. Avoid test anxiety when taking nclex is very very important. I hope this helps & good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
