Samuel Merritt University ELMSN Fall 2014
Hello all, Good to see a forum started, I also applied for Fall 14 for FNP program it is so nerve-racking keep checking my email daily , mickeymouse85 I would recommend retaking the exam, I ended up retaking it because my score was not what I expected, on the app it says to re send scores to them if retaking.

Can an introvert succeed as a nurse?
I also agree being a CNA can help in clinicals and allow you to be able to work with diff patients.
-
scared to take CNA class
Like many have mentioned is common sense, you will learn the basic skills, also if a patient is too heavy try to get some help esp hoyer lift etc other than that you'll enjoy the experience and if patients/residents offend you don't take it personally

Cattiness an issue as a NP??
I also thought in a more professional setting there would be less gossiping but unfortunately it isn't it might be a little less than bedside nurse but it still goes around I just tend to stay away from those people and try to keep it minimal and work related.

Western University MSN-E 2014
I am also applying for Fall, I submitted my appl in July, they emailed me that one of my pre reqs (English) won't count so I am going to have to retake it. Other than that I have not received any other info.

Which graduate degree should I pursue?
I am currently applying to entry level masters program, I am doing the non-RN route but you should choose the one that best fits your life perspective if you want more of the admin area then maybe the dual mba/msn will be your fit

LVNs/LPNs being phased out?!
This is good to know, thanks Jay for the article.

Who motivates you? Inspires you? Share your stories.
Myself and family, my family has always persuaded me to further education and never settle, I also am my own motivator because in the end you're the only that knows your limits.

New RN how to 'manage' CNAs
I am currently a CNA and at times do tend to work in pairs but when the shift is heavy other than that I work alone, in order for you to approach this group don't come off as I'm the leader here just have the schedule set up in the beginning let them know we are here to make the residents feel better and make sure we are always checking on them and don't get distracted.

Compassion, easily lost?
I have to agree with what many have posted, do not generalize one work place to everything else, I am currently a cna and I thought cnas had it bad, at times we are not appreciated for what we do, where I did my clinical my instructor was rude and intimidating she would pop out of nowhere and embarrass you in front of others. I had my doubts if I should even continue but where I work now the nursing facility is slightly better you still have those gossipy co workers or try to call you mother teresa for trying to spend a little more time with residents but you should know where you stand and what kind of care you provide. No matter what setting you're in you will encounter people who are miserable and nursing is a overworked field where after couple of hours a patient/resident drains you from your patience but in the end you chose this field.
