I took Nclex-RN for Vermont last August '15 but unfortunately, I failed the test. I thought I was still eligible to retake the test, but they informed me that I am not qualified to retake the exam anymore for the reason that I am only allowed to take the exam once since I graduated in college (BSN) for almost 7years now. They only allowed no more than 5 years ago.

I was so devastated that I have to do it all over again, spend more money again for the processing, but I have no choice. Now my problem is I don't know what state to apply for, for my Nclex-Rn.

My husband is in the military so we only stay in 3-4 years where he got stationed and move to another state again but most probably we are going to stay for good in California when he retires.

Is there anyone here who can help me:

- to what state will I go for my application for registered nurse

- can be endorsed to other state and can be accepted in California state?

Please...please I really need your help!

I would start out by going to a local college (who has a RN refresher course) and asking them what credits are still applicable, and what you would have to take to refresh your education.

7 years is a long time, and a refresher would be to your advantage.

Meanwhile, you can go on BON websites for whatever state your husband will be stationed in, and see what the qualifications are for sitting for the NCLEX. Make sure you have all of your transcript information from your school.

7 years is a long time, and yes, often life gets in the way.

I was enlightened with your advice. Yes, your right 7 years is a long time, but within that years I was working as an RN in our country not knowing that I was meant to stay for good here in U.S. I will consider your advice.

I worked as a nurse in a different country and after moving to the US with my husband had to sit for the US board. I prepared for the NCLEX by getting Saunders and Kaplan, I did more than 5000 practice questions and passed the NCLEX without problems. The preparation took some time and I dedicated time for reading and learning.

Some states are part of compact licensure but some are not. You can always add a license through endorsement, the BON in each state are online and you can research what is needed for this process.

You should pursue licensure in whatever state are living and planning to practice in.

A license from any other US state can be endorsed into CA as long as you meet the CA BRN requirements. If you don't meet all of CA's requirements for initial licensure, being licensed in another state won't help you, you won't be able to get licensed in CA.

However, I can't consider CA to get a license because going back to school will cost me a lot of money. We are considering getting a license in other states because there might be a chance wich I can work in the veterans hospital or naval hospital since my husband is in the military.
