Failed Nclex twice Any advice?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have failed NCLEX TWICE now. Each time I answered in 265 questions and was told I was "borderline." The first time I knew I wasn't prepared so I wasn't shocked or upset when I failed and I was still borderline. The second time I took it I was shocked. I thought for sure I would pass. All my Kaplan scores were above 65% like they wanted and I had answered questions every single day on free websites, including NCLEX 3500. Does anyone have ANY advice at all? There was stuff on there that I had NEVER even heard of before (disorders and operations). I'm feeling hopeless. I have 4 kids counting on me and I never cried as hard as I did when I found out I failed that second time. Any advice on programs or study tactics? besides Kaplan......

There are many sources to choose from.; however I always post this adage:

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?

Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can do so successfully.

Learn to understand WHAT the question is asking you; THEN review the rationales, THEN if you don't understand the rationale, look to the sources of information.

hello...I failed nclex and passed 2nd time...

this is what i did..

I answered 200 questions each day and review rationale each question even though i got it right...

if u think u dont understand the question write down the rationale!!!! to memorize

I used lots of references/books

saunder and hurst =really good for contents..i didnt take hurst class cuz i know im good at contents...i just read their books and memorized info from HURsT!!!!

kaplan=i did take this class... and answered all the questions and review every day!!!! i thought it was very helpful cuz iam bad at critical thinking (take this class if u think u need help on crtical thinking)

exam cram=this book......if u have time... use it...

PRIORITYT DELEGATION ASSESSMENT=THIS BOOK I RECOMMEND....IF U DONT HAVE TIME JUST DO PART 1 ...PART 2 IS JUST CASE STUDY

dont give up...i know how u feel...take a week off (i didnt do nething for a week...just enjoyed my freedom)

Hey don't feel too bad. I took the nclex today and got a cc page when I did the pvt. I cried so hard that I got a headache. So I failed the nclex for the second time. First time i failed at 75 questions. Second time I failed at 170 questions. I'm interested in seeing what advice people have to offer.

I'm very sorry you didn't pass. I know how that feels. I too have failed twice. Getting over the second failure was very difficult. Like you, I cried and cried until I had a very swollen face and a throbbing headache as well as heartache. You must think of all you have overcome to get this far. We place such an importance on this one test that it sets a lot of people up to fail. I hate tests and this one is a granddaddy of terrible tests. We must do like we did in nursing school and put it behind us and move on to the next time when we get to try again and do everything in our power to be successful. You are going to pass this thing...it's just a matter of when. Have confidence in yourself as a nurse. Don't doubt your ability to be a great nurse because you have it. Take hold of it, don't give in to defeat. You can and you will get passed this and become the RN you were meant to be.

Next week I will be taking it for the 3rd time. The first time it stopped at 75 questions. I knew I had failed. The second time I got up to 257 or so and ran out of time. I failed again but my CPR indicated I almost passed everything. This time I have been repeating my study through Hurst, doing any free questions I can find and I got NCBSN (of which I only did the tests). I am a visual learner so I have looked at YouTube videos of different procedures, which to do first in different situations and did as many SATA's as I can find. There are not many SATA sample questions out there though and I am terrible in those. Since they are among the higher level of questions that worries me. I've used CDC's website to get a lot of information or double check the information I have.

From reading postings of success stories the number 1 constant message is to believe in yourself and your ability to pass. I've been telling myself every day that I am passing this test and getting my license soon. I even wrote in on the bathroom mirror so I see it every time I look in the mirror. I am relying on spiritual help as well. I know nursing is not just what I want to do, it is what I am supposed to do. I am trusting God to provide where I fall short. I've said lots of prayers and asked lots of people to say prayers for me to pass this time. No doubt I will be saying many more before I complete the 3rd test.

My advice is to take a break and do something good for yourself. Once your get your CPR figure out what you are lowest in and concentrate on that the most. Make a study schedule and stick to it. Don't study for hours on end. Study and hour then break for a little bit before returning to it. You will retain the information better and not just be memorizing. Don't just study the facts of a diagnosis or treatment but know what you as a nurse would/should think if you saw the patient. Example: If you have a child in the ER complaining of right upper abdominal pain. What would you be thinking of? You should be thinking it could be Wilms tumors so that means I would not palpate or put any pressure on the stomach of this child. What complications could occur? ....and so on. That's my advice and I hope it helps you in your success the 3rd time you take the NCLEX. God bless you.

These post are so inspirational I to failed my NCLEX-RN for the second time 12 August. Very devastating I paid the 8 bucks to know for sure.. It hurt yesterday was such a hard day but I read on another test taker post that said "it doesn't matter how you get there, as long as you get there". That with prayer has been getting me through. Good luck and we have this we are going to pass nd we are going to conquer this exam !!
