drugs or Pharmacology Mnemonics?

I take it you are most concerned about pharmacology review. What do you know? Try brain dumping. I learned/remembered pharmacology by 'system'...antibiotics (then the suffixes that go along as the classes often have similar side effects/indications... pennicillins, quinolones, erythromycins, etc.), antihypertensives (beta blockers, ace II, calcium channel blockers, diuretics), etc. Plus my text book was set up the same way. This worked for me and I was able to apply the knowledge to my classwork, clinical rotations, NCLEX, and now clinical practice as a nurse. The best part about real world nursing is that the resources are at your fingertips (pharmacists, drug guides, apps, internet, prescription paperwork) so once you make it through the NCLEX you can breathe a lot easier. :)

I recall you posted that you have the Mosby pharm cards and Exam Cram. Plus I'm guessing you also have your pharmacology text from nursing school. Which organization or presentation style works best for you?

Do you learn best by listening, watching, hand-on? There are some pretty good you-tube videos out there. If you know how you learn best I may be able to point you in the direction of some good resources.

I thought it was you that posted that you had the Mosby drug flash cards, my mistake. I'm not suggesting that you purchase another resource, we spend enough just getting through school.

Have you tried looking at you tube videos? Many videos are posted on You Tube from colleges, universities, nursing schools and other reliable sources that can be a great asset to audio-visual learners. If you have an iPod, there are also free podcasts and classes in iTunes U from medical schools and schools of nursing that may be of assistance.

A lot of my classmates that are visual learners found many great videos on YouTube that helped them succeed.

Do you still have your pharmacology book from school? Mine had some awesome online resources, disk and workbook that were great. The pharm disk actually had mnemonics, flash cards, and NCLEX-PN style questions that were very helpful. You can also check your textbook publisher's site, I'm going to see if I can find the bookmark to the correct site. If you have one of the text books or a study guide from this publisher you will be able to register and get online access not only to the materials from your book/textbook but also many other student resources. Have you checked some of the sticky posts in the Nursing Student Assistance Forum?

A lot of my classmate swear by this book and it's helped me at times. I learn like the other poster by learning the class of drugs. However, if mnemonics is what you are looking for check out that book.

I will second the Nursing Made Incredibly Easy series. They also have a website and a magazine/journal. The website has links to some free material (other articles/CE require paid subscription). You can usually find the books at your local bookstore. If pharmacology is your achiles heel it might be worthwhile as you can use it as a reference as you move forward in your career.

Hey guys - I came across this neat app called Pharmacology Mnemonics - it is actually available on iPhone/iPad and android/tablet. It looks like a great tool to memorize things on the go...

Try the memory notebooks of nursing. Pretty good.
