Has anyone attended St. Louis Community College school of nursing at Florissant Valley or any of their campuses? I am due to start the actual nursing classes in Fall of 2005. The waiting list is very long. However during all the time I had to wait to get in I have taken all classes required for the degree except the actual nursing courses. I just took the Nursing Dosage Calculation test that they now make new students take now before they start the nursing classes. I got a 100% :rolleyes: on it so I am very happy about that.

I am just wondering how the clinicals at this school are arranged? Also any opinions will be helpful. How hard is the program overall?

The community colleges have an excellent nursing program. Both my mother and I graduated from St. Charles County Community College. The clinicals we had were at St. Lukes Hospital and St. Josephs in St. Charles. They were both very good and the nurses there were very nice to us. Best of luck to you in school.

GFY MistyKat10, my neice goes to flo valley's nursing program and she loves it. If u can get your nursing books early and start your reading that really helps. Also get as many of your gen ed's outta the way also. But I'm sure you'll recieve a great nursing education there they model there program from Barnes college of nursing and Jewish. So you should have no problem. The best of luck to you and congratulations.

I'm currently at Meremac. Good luck! I suggest you get all the prereq's out of the way before you start the program- it will be a lot more time consuming than you think.

It's reported that the comm. colleges (stl and stchas) have the highest pass rates on the test in the metro area....

Well I'll be starting at St. Charles Community College in Fall 2006, and I am so excited about it, I have heard a lot of good things about the community colleges and I am very excited I still have to take Anatomy 1 and 2 and Mictobiology so I'll do that in 2005 semester, but I wish you the best of luck. Im sure you will do fine. Who did you have for anatomy an florissant valley?

I had Edward Fliss for Anatomy & Physiology I &

Wayne Paris for Anatomy & Physiology II.

I am taking Goerge Heth's Microbiology class this summer so when fall comes I will only have the nursing classes to take! Congratulations on getting into nursing school at St. Charles :)

How many days a week do you have clinicals on? How far into the program are you? Also this may sound like a silly question but I just wanted to know do nursing students get paid for clinicals?

I am so excited for August to get here so I can start my actually nursing classes.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to start looking into the nursing books some time in June or July before the fall semester starts. I have also been getting other stuff like nursing shoes, watch, a littmann stethoscope so I will not have to buy so much when August gets here. How is your neice enjoying the clinicals?

I'm in my second (of four) semesters at Meremac.

Paid for Clinicals?!? Nope- but you do get the bill for the uniforms, the books, the coffee (lack of sleep...), and now the drug test/background check... It's a "pay your dues" kind of thing. I'm in clinicals Tues and Wed, from about 6:15am to noonish. And of course the average 5 hours preparing for clinicals doing the paperwork on Monday.

Lecture is Mon and Friday, with lab times on Thursday. Yep, that comes out to 5 days a week. And I work full time (actually, just down the road from SCCC...) on top of it all. It's really difficult, but I love every single minute of it. OK- MOST of it....

It's hard, no doubt about it. But that's what you get when you go to a school that turns out some very, very good nurses. There is another program in town that is probally less work, but good luck passing the test! I hear they have a good year if they get 50% to pass....

Good luck, and just remember you are doing exactly what you want to be doing. There are not a lot of people who get that chance....

I have heard of other schools that are less work but with students having problems passing THE TEST. Which school are you talking about? I know at Florissant Valley they have 100% pass rate last year. I sure hope I picked the right school :)

You can find out pass rates for schools by going to the missouri board of nursings website. They post them every quarter. I attend Barnes-Jewish college of nursing. I have many friends who have graduated from St Louis Community College nursing programs at Forest Park, Meramac, and Flo Valley. They all enjoyed there stay there and said that it was an excellent program. I sure you will do well no matter where you are. An education is only worth as much as YOU put into it, no matter what school you go to.
