Okay, current and/or former students and rejectees:

Has anyone been rejected due to their gpa? Was the gpa less than 3.2. I'm afraid that with their competivness, I won't get accepted.

Yep, I'm taking it now at FP. I recommend Applebaum if she's available.

Good luck on your acceptance.

Applebaum is the teacher I'll have this summer, at FP. I've already taken A&P I & II and Micro there as well, and I still have statistics to take in the fall. So... I might see you at Barnes next spring, if I get in!! :) Thanks!

I still have micro (at Flo Valley) and stats to take this fall. I might take Stats this summer but I'm trying to avoid summer school. Hope to see you at Barnes....I'm sure you'll get in. :wink2:

Barnes takes way more students than they anticipate graduating. They plan on many of the students failing. They get more revenue by accepting more than they really want to go further. Soo, dont be worried about being accepted. Just a warning I went through the entire program they had one terrible teacher actually several but they had to have the dean reteach a class because many of us failed. They refuse to take that fail off the transcript. They however new there was a problem because the dean retaught the class and that instructor no longer works at the college. They still maintain that the instructor did what they were suppose to. Read to us from a book? THen I failed the last very last class because of timelines in place for a paper project and a remediation proect. I turned both in on time however, due to finishing the remediation my paper was lacking. When I turned in my paper and remediation the instructor decided to give extra time for the remediation to several students. Well my remediation was done and she would not give me extra time on my paper. I failed because of the paper. They answer given to me was if you still want to be a nurse you will have to start over at another school if you can find one. The school will not listen to my grievence. The school backs their instructors reguardless of the situation. Beware of barnes.

Yikes. That's not a particularly nice or flattering view of Barnes-Jewish....or at least one person's experience there. I've been accepted to their Jan. 2009 accelerated program. I am also likely going to apply to SLU's program as well (for May 2009). I'd like to hear from others who are graduates, or at least current students, at Barnes-Jewish. If what's outlined in this post is at all representative of others' experiences there, those of us who have been accepted there, or planning to apply there, need to know that.

Anyone else have anything to share?

I just completed a Kaplan review course with several students who just finished Barnes' ADN program (I believe their last ADN class as they no longer offer it) and didn't hear any complaints. The only thing I heard someone say was that they could've saved a lot of money had they been able to attend the community college over their program!

I also used to work with a gal who attended their evening program. She graduated and has been a nurse for several years now.

Don't know that that's much help, but they ARE putting out graduates.

Hey, WDW....thanks for the information! Good to know, though I'd like to find out if anyone else can share information on BJC's accelerated program.

And congrats on graduating. I'm really happy for you!

My friend is starting the Accelerated program in January '09. All that I have heard from her is that she plans on staying with family in U.City during the week because it is very hours intensive and then you have a lot of reading at night, so she doesn't want to have to commute back to her house in Defiance during the week. She has spoken with a lot of other students who have been in the program and is very confident that the program is doable (and she is in her late 50's.)

Hope this inof help a little.

Where in CA are you originally from? I'm from So. CA and have been here 15 years....

WDWPixie.....small world! I was born at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and raised mostly in Orange County (Anaheim....not too far from Disneyland). I assume, by your screen name here, you're a Disney fan. I worked for Disney in Los Angeles (at the studio, on the lot) til I moved to St. Louis last summer.

I miss the great California sunshine, and I miss the mountains terribly. But I don't really miss LA. Too expensive and far too crowded and congested.

Where were you raised?

Yeah, there are definately a few things I miss; overall, I love St. Louis. If I could just convince the rest of my family and friends to relocate, it'd be perfect!!

Where were you raised?

Born in Inglewood @ Centinela; raised in San Gabriel/Rosemead area. Lived in Ontario, CA until '93 when we moved.

My aunt & uncle used to live off of the 91 fwy. in Orange and went to school for a short time in Santa Ana near where my father used to live. And of course, spent time in the area driving to and from the beach!!

Was back there a few weeks ago after pinning to see family in Fresno. Was lucky with the weather and the fwy. traffic, but wow, you don't see what a concrete jungle it is until you fly back to STL after the spring rains we've had!! Just gorgeous here, huh? And it even SMELLS pretty when everything's in bloom!!

Unfortunately, no In 'n Out, See's Candies, Northwoods Inn, or other favorites here. ;)

Life's one big trade off!! Good luck with your schooling decisions!!

I am in the accelerated program at BJC GSON and have not had an ideal experience. Knowing what I know now, I would have taken the extra three months to attend UMSL's accelerated program or paid the additional money to attend SLU's.

What is it that you now know that makes you say this? I am supposed to start the 1 yr BSN program next May and I'd love to know more about your experience and if it's typical. Thanks!
