WCCC does NOT have an accredited nursing program

U.S.A. Michigan

so i was doing some research about wccc (wayne county community college) and found out that they are not accredited by nlnac.

does it really matter if the program isnt accredited? can you still get a job out there?

You don't get it. I'm not trying to debate whether or not they are worthwhile or not, I'm talking about surviving school, what's the use of trying to look good for an employer, if you don't get through school? I see you've been an RN for 2 years. Good for you. Those of us who are posting in this thread are still students trying to survive school. I lost a lot of classmates in MS2 that would have really benefitted from this type of info. I'm not trying to push extra courses off on anyone, but the point is, that the availability of these Nursing classes are not even made known to us currently enrolled at WCCCD. So I advise people to check out what's available that's all.

I do get it, thanks. I understand you are trying to get through school. No need for the attitude. Take the class if you think it will help. How much of EKG do they go over in your med/surg because at HFCC we didn't have much.

Again, do you get it?, you say you do, but it doesn't seem to be clicking. I'm not saying people should or shouldn't. I just want to let them know what's available. EKG interpretation was covered extensively in our first test. Like I said before, my comments were for the students currently enrolled at WCCCD. And as for the attitude, well, take it how you want. I'm done discussing this. I've got to study.

PEACE

Nope. I got it. Next time I won't reply to a post if it relates to a nursing student, seeing as how I am not a nursing student anymore.

have loads of fun studying. Peace.

Wow - pass score on RN Assess is 57?

I have heard about WCCCD not having an accredited nursing program also. This has never stopped me from attending. People who feel that it will hurt them just puts me that much closer in a spot in the program. Davenport Unversity is not accredited through the NLNAC either and they are a unversity. People just seem to focus on Wayne County all the time. I wonder why. This type of accreditation is not necessary. They are people who just got hired at Children's hospital where I work from Wayne County. I am so excited to see them there.

I graduated in 2003 a Rn with out accrediation from my school >>> AAS Nursing

I joined the Army and am underqualified for the job I was given .. I am a combat medic ; enlisted private because my school did not have the proper accrediation :banghead: ; o I will not be able to be a army nurse / officer untill I complete my Bachelors .

People do not realize how imparative it is to have the accrediation. I would now be an officer if that was the case.. It put me thru hell training with kids 20 years younger than me and listening to why I was training with them : because nurses do not belong on the frontlines getting shot at...:argue:....

So before one says who cares , ask those who put thier life on the line .. paying the fee and straightening up some of the attitude in the school would be worth more than one knows.:nurse:

question: did you know you would have a problem when you decided to go to the non-accredited school? when i decided to go to wcccd, i knew up front i would have problems with the accreditation if i chose to join the military. if joining the military was my goal, i would have chosen a different school.

just my:twocents:

Not all schools are required to have accreditation. And remember accreditation is differend for BSN and ADN programs. WCCCD is not accredited by NLNAC. It doesn't have to be. It just needs to be approved by the state to meet requirements set by the State Board of Nursing so that students can take the NCLEX. It doesn't mean that the program is any less capable of producing nurses than HFCC or OU. My sister will be attending WCCCD next fall and I'm proud that she will graduate from there.

True your school's accreditation is not likely to matter when applying for a job. But, if you are planning to further your education then it is something that you should look into. As in my case, I plan to go into Nurse Anesthesia so I must graduate from a school with specific accreditation. (EMU grad Dec. 2009! :wink2:)

Schoolcraft isn't accredited by the NLNAC and you never hear anything about that. When I graduate from WCCCD and pass the NCLEX I will be able to continue my education at any University in Michigan as long as I have a current Michigan RN License. The only accreditation that matters is the SBON. I am currently enrolled in WCCCD's nursing program and I can tell you that it is no joke. I have already learned so much and I know I am getting a great education. NLNAC accreditation is voluntary, SBON accreditation is mandatory.

You do not need to be from an accredited school to get into CRNA school. The minimum requirement is a BSN or another appropriate degree. This is what is found on the AANA website under "requirements". Yes, you will be fine by going to EMU, but so will other people who might not happen to be at an accredited program. Accreditation does matter when selecting a CRNA school, but makes no difference at the undergraduate level. If you go onto any one of the hundred or so programs found in the U.S., I doubt that any have the words "accredited ADN" as a requirement.

This subject matter continues to come up even though it really is a non-issue except in very rare occassions like the military and its requirements.
