Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!

I can not answer #1 yet, but as for #2. I hear you can take nursing classes in the summer if you fail a certain course. So the two years really consist of 4 semesters (Fall/Winter-Spring). Actually, I think you CAN take Pharm in the summer. Maybe someone else can verify.

Thank you, I was just confused on if it was four or more semesters.

I will be finish with all of my pre-req's in the summer of 07. For the summer session I will only have Microbiology left. So will I still be able to apply for Fall of 07 since I will complete Micro in the summer? Or will I have to wait until the Winter session?

i'm pretty sure that you will have to wait until the winter session, as the cutoff date for the fall of 2007 is the end of next may. if you are taking microbiology next summer, i recommend (edit name per moderator) she teaches it online, but she is an awesome teacher. her notes are crystal clear and she really takes time out to make sure you understand everything. good luck!

For those attending orientation this week please let us know how it went. I am excited to hear every detail. The actual class lottery would be held on Friday right?

You will not be able to apply for the nursing program until Winter 08. You must have a letter grade on your transcript for all of the required classes.

I have two questions for those accepted into the nursing program.

1. Was your G.P.A. based on your overall g.p.a. or just you g.p.a. for your pre-req's?

2. I heard that WCCCD doesn't allow you to attend nursing classes in the summer. So does the two-years consist of just four semesters?

The GPA was based first on the five pre-reqs need for the program. If you have completed other required classes pertaining to nursing like your co-reqs. DT130, SOC100, HSC200, HSC100, and Pathophysiology 252, then they would consider those classes in your GPA as well.

You only attend summer classes if you need to make up a class. If you start in Fall 06, you will attend Fall 06 and Winter 07 semester's only. You will be out the the summer of 07, continue in Fall 07 and Winter 08 and graduate Spring Class of 2008.

what is a class lottery? :uhoh3:

i believe that is where you put your name into a box, when your name is pulled, you will have choice of class and clinicals. so basically, if you are chosen first, you would have the best pick of class times and instructors.

they are having the orientation and lottery today and tomorrow. i hope to get a beter understanding of this hopefully by the weekend....(hint, hint ). for thos attending, please don't forget to post and let us know how it went.

Question: If they use my five pre-requisites (Micro, A & P 1 and 2, Phy 101, and Eng 100) my GPA would be 3.6 (planning on an A in A & P 2). If they used my other classes, it would bring my GPR down to 3.5.... Why would they use my other classes if it would bring my GPA down a little? Just wondering how this is going to work. I will apply on August 23 and getting nervous.

It isnt 100% clear how they really look at the grades...I think if you are above the lower then you will be fine. Which a 3.5 or 3.6 is a pretty decent bet that you will be ok.

Good Luck!
