OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students

U.S.A. Michigan

I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!

:hpygrp:

Does anyone know how they choose which NUR 1290 class you get??? I am trying to take the online course, and think that there are only 2 of those offered. It is the only one that will work with my schedule (I know that when I actually begin the program my work and social life will revolve around that, but until then I would like to work as much as possible) I was a little disappointed that all those classes they offer this summer are in the morning, and none in the evening. I know they try to go to your first choice, but if more choose one how do they determine who gets in??? Also, for anyone currently in the program, did anyone take NUR 1290 online, if so how was it????

I did call the nursing department earlier in the week and they said the letters they sent out included the 30 extra for the accelerated program so the 3.774 would be the cutoff even with those spaces...so that means pretty much that for anyone else to get in someone who was accepted would have to decline their spot. I will call the nursing department again though.

I also called when I received my letter and yes the nursing department said the same thing to me about the 30 extra spots.

How much does my ordeal suck

I have a 3.70 so I did not get in

I had 9 pre reqs to complete, so I took 4 last summer, and 5 in the fall, and applied by December 15

However, my SOC class over the summer, i got a B, but got it up to an A, but it took awhile for it to transfer on to my transcript.

I sent in my stuff in Decemeber like they said, my Grade changed to an A mid december, so I sent that one in also at the end of December.

I did not get in because they have a B still for my SOC class, bc my transcrtip never got there. and if it did I would have had a 3.777 and gotten in

I met with them today and they will not recalculate the A in, its too late

Isnt that awful?? lol gl though everyone who got in

Oh no! Thats horrible! How about this situation:

I took A&P at Washtenaw and it was a 5 credit class that incorporated both A&P 1 and 2. I was approved in 2008 for a course substitution at OCC so I didn't have to take A&P 2 over. About late February or early March the Nursing Office at OCC denied my course substitution and would not consider me at all for the nursing program because I "did not have A&P 2"! Isn't that a load of BS??? Why would you wait 1.5-2 years and as soon as I've applied to the program to tell me my course substitution is no good. What makes it worse is that I dont get financial aid so I pay out of pocket for all of my classes. This is MY money and time they are playing with!

mocha, sorry to hear about your situation. it seems that if they approved it once they shouldnt be able to not approve it now. i would contact the dean of students and complain, might want to even throw in some "im contacting a lawyer" stuff. i think the sad truth is that all of these schools are overwhelmed with nursing applicants and are looking for any reason to not let you in (not to mention they get money from you for retaking classes). you def need to make them explain why they wouldnt take that class all of the sudden.

I agree with whosur....did you get the approval for the class substitution in writing from the dean? That would seal the matter right away! Be sure to contact the Dean of Nursing, as well as the Highland Lakes counseling department. They definitely should be able to help.
