nursing assistant

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew how to become a nursing assistant? I have been on some local hospitals websites and haven't been able to find any info. I work full time right now, but I thought it might be a good idea to try to do that part time as I will be waiting at least a year before I get accepted to the program. Does anyone work somewhere that they utilize assistants part time, and if so is it on the job training? I live in the Detroit Metro area. Thank you!

hey jeni- i have never wanted to be in HR, this job I got just works for me....i started as a receptionist and just kinda got shoved into it really. i have always wanted to be a nurse. i haven't applied to occ yet, i have been told i have to be completely finished with classes such as---phys. ed credit, political science, intro to chem (if not already in high school), and then the general pre req's like nutrition, composition, micro, A&P, have you finished ALL of your classes required, except the nursing core classes? i haven't even applied yet, and i was told if i finish everything, by this summer, i have a very good chance in getting in for fall of 07...you have already applied, and they are telling you fall of 07 or 08, why not this fall? i was told the sooner i get my classes done, the better chance i have. so whats the deal i wonder what are the classes you finished so far? are you at OCC right now?

I agree with Jeni too...APPLY NOW if you are applying to OCC. Last I heard, as Jeni stated, they base when you apply to OCC as part of when you get in. So the earlier you apply the better.

Also, Beaumont offers nurse assistant training to people they hire in. Check out their website or call thier HR office.

Hello!

I worked as a contingent Nursing Assistant at Troy Beaumont while attending nursing school...being contingent was really nice because I could work one day per week (or less, actually) while in school and as much as I wanted during the summer or "off times". Also, if you are interested in working for Beaumont in the future - they like to promote/hire from within so that is a GREAT way to "get your foot in the door"

GOOD LUCK!

Jenny

Hey, justjenny, Thanks for the reply. How did you get the cna job at Beaumont? Did you just call Human Resources? I have checked their website and I did not find any job listing for a cna. I would love to get in there, I live just down the road! Any information would be most helpful!

They have Nursing Assistants and Nurse Techs. A tech is usually someone in nursing school who is about to graduate. I had a nursing clinical at Troy (actually two) and approached a manager while there for school and gave her my resume. My instructor also said that she would speak to the manager for me.

Of course those things really help, but they aren't always hiring for assistants, you have to keep checking the website for new postings.

I just checked http://www.beaumonthospitals.com and there are no NA listings currently.

Good luck!

I live in Battle Creek and here I took the CNA class which was 2 weeks long Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 p.m. The second week of the class on the last three days of the class we did our clinical at a local nursing home, then we took our computer test and clinical exam and became certified.

The local community college offers the CNA class here, but alot of the nursing homes also offer the CNA classes right in their facilities.
