HfCC waiting list

Does anyone know what the average wait list time to get into the nursing program at Henry Ford Community College is? Also what are all the requirements so that I can make sure I have all my ducks in a row. :redbeathe:redbeathe:uhoh3:

Did you talk to the nursing counselors or nursing department, because I got the same ole song and dance about nothing being definate.

Both. I feel very positive that I'll be invited next year. If not, probably it's not for me... I have been already invited for the Respiratory program for Fall 2010, I might just go for it. Time will tell.

hey everyone, So my husband went to the nursing department today to find out about the waitlist. He is done with his last prereq in a few more weeks and will be taking the NET test next week. Anyways, he was told that when you are put on the waitlist is the day that you complete your classes and NET test.....but, they actually look at when you submitted your initial nursing school application when ranking you, which he did over a year ago when he started taking the classes. So this is probably how people get bumped forward or backwards! Just what he said.

So, Do you apply, declare nursing take a few pre reqs then the NET then apply and finish up rest of pre reqs while waiting for an invitation? I haven't looked online in a while- how many pre reqs are there? Any idea how long the wait is these days?

I was placed on the waitlist in Sept of 2008. I am still not in the program. I talked to someone in the nursing office today and she told me that I may get in for Spring but if not then in the Fall I should be in for sure. I am currently taking BIO-234. This is my last prereq to take. While on the list I have taken classes toward my BSN. I have taken Geology, Nutrition, Anthrology and Western Regliion in the time that I am waiting. I just can't wait to start already. It seems like I will have almost all of my BSN prereqs done before I even have my ASN.

So did you have to finish all pre reqs before you applied? I'm confused since you said you are currently taking your last pre req? My husband just told me that there has been an increase of students there the past 2 yrs so it is hard to get into the classes you need. That has to be frustrating if it is true. Thanks fro the reply and good luck in school.

you take the few prereqs to get on the waitlist, once on the waitlist you then take the last ones while waiting to get into the program.

Sorry for any confusion. This is how it works. When you go to the nursing department and tell them that you want to go into nursing they will give you a paper listing what classes have to be taken. The list is broken into 3 steps (A, B & C). You can choose to do the classes however you what however you must comlete step A in order to get on the waitlist. Then if you haven't already taken the classes on step B you take these while waiting. Then in step C you complete the nursing program. It is true that the classes fill up fast. This semster I forgot to register and got on the next day to do it online and most of the classes where full. The only problem I had was the classes that I wanted to take online I now have to go to the campus to take. I still got in the class but just requires more work. So I will list the steps and what is required for each step. Step A-complete the following classes, passing the NET, and a G.P.A of 2.70 will allow us to place your name on the waitlist for the nursing program. BIO 131, Math 074-080 or 100, Chemistry 131, English 131 & 132, PSY 131, and NET test (HFCC only). After you complete these and any prereqs to take these classes you can get on the list. StepB- PHARM AH120 (HFCC only), BIO 233 & 234, PSY253, SOC 131 and computer literacy requirement. The n Step C you complete the nursing part.

Like I said before you can take the classes however you want before step A has to be done before you are on the waitlist. I took some of my step A and B classes at the same time. By getting fin aid I have to have at least 6 credits during the fall and winter so if 2 step A classes was not open I would take a step A and a step B class at the same time. when I went on the waitlist I only had to complete PSY253, BIO 233 & 234 and PHARM. I was done with everything but Chem for a little while because I couldn't get into a class. I started at HFCC in the Fall of 2007 went on the waitlist in Fall of 2008 and hopefully will start the before no later than Fall of 2010.

I have been hearing from a lot of people that wait list is really long. Currently I have all the pre req's done except for the Chem class and the NET test. The school I am currently at from what I hear doesnt have a wait list. I signed up for A&P this semester because it is a pre req to the school I am at. What I am at a loss for now is that I cant decide between dropping A&P and picking up Chem so I can at least get on the wait list as HFCC or just keep A&P and work towards trying to get in where I am. I know its better to have options so I am thinking of doing the Chemistry now and then picking up A&P in the fall. Any suggestions??

Ashley I would drop A&P and take Chem. That way you at least have a backup plan if you don't get in at your school any faster. I go to the nursing office at the beginning of every semester and ask what my number is so I know how much closer I am. If I get in the nursing program in May I will have been on the waitlist for 19 months. If I go in the Fall I will be on it for 22 months. So you are right the list can be very long and take a while. However remember that students change schools before starting the program, drop out, or fail. My number was 242 in Sept 2009 and when I went the other day it was 141 and that is before the 40 students starting names are removed from the list. So I figure my number should be around 101.

Well thats good you are well on your way now! :D I just tried to drop my A&P class and pick up Chem and unfortunately it is already full at my school :crying2: Not to mention that classes at HFCC have already started so I am kind of in a rut right now. I am hoping that someone drops before classes start next week so that I can pick it up. Otherwise I can't take Chem until the summer classes begin. I have been going to school year round since August of 2008 but I can only take up to 2 classes a semester seeing that I work full time. I am just so tired of waiting and ready to get started that I am trying to push my way through and get in somewhere Fall 2010 or at least Spring 2011.

i just have a question: i have a friend who finished all her pre-reqs and net for hfcc in October 2009- so what is his next step? does he sit around and wait cuz he has all his other co-reqs completed. how long is the wait list ususally?

So . . . I have started attending HFCC, it has been 10 years since I was in college. Do I have to complete my 12+ credits at 2.7 or higher, and take some required courses BEFORE I apply to the waitlist for the Nursing Program? I registered a little late this semester and only managed to get half-time worth of credits (luckily classes that are needed) so it will be end of spring before I have the 12 credits . . . I know I do need to see a counselor there but they are gone by the time I get there for classes. I am very nervous about getting what I need done ASAP so as to not make the program take longer than necessary to complete.
