HfCC waiting list

U.S.A. Michigan

Does anyone know what the average wait list time to get into the nursing program at Henry Ford Community College is? Also what are all the requirements so that I can make sure I have all my ducks in a row. :redbeathe:redbeathe:uhoh3:

Well...first off there is a list on HFCC's website that tell you what classes you need to get done in order to get admitted to the wait list for the program. They are sectioned off into steps A B and C. When you complete A you can apply to the program and get placed on the waiting list. What I would suggest would be to use the classes that are needed as pre req's to meet your 12 credits that you have to take there. Although I didn't know you had to take 12 credits there before you could apply. I just transferred all my credits over there. The wait list for the program I hear is about 12-18 months. During that time you can finish the classes that they have listed under section B. I hope this helps you out some :)

If you don't mind answering, where did you trans from and why? So from sect B on it's 12 - 18 mos to get into the program? Then sect C must be program itself??

I just copied and pasted part of the handout they email you or give you when you come in the office. It details all the information that they want from you up until you start the program. When this one was given to me it said to note that the wait is approximately 2 years. Although I am still hearing otherwise concerning this.

I am transferring from WC3 mainly because I have all the pre req's for HFCC done already. I was transferring to HFCC about a year ago from WC3 when I found out about the program they offered in junction with Henry Ford Hospital. I had just started working for the hospital and wanted to take advantage. But, due to the economy, the program was cut while I was still doing my pre reqs so I decided to stay at wc3. If I stayed there and applied to their program I would still need to complete AP1 and 2 as well as Microbiology before I could apply. Because I go part time that would mean 3 more semesters (Because I refuse to take 2 science classes at once) to apply to HFCC I only needed Chemistry. So I transferred to HFCC picked up a Chem class and will be applying at the end of the semester. While I am on the wait list I am still going to take the required classes for WC3 so I can apply there and start putting my eggs in different baskets but felt it would be best to at least start somewhere and I hear that HFCC is awesome!!

I am feeling even more discouraged about school today. I talked to someone at HFCC and she told me that now the waiting list is to 3 years!! I just know I don't want to wait that long specially since in the course of that I could have gotten my BSN. Even if I don't wait 3 years it seems like I will be waiting at least 2 to get in now. Guess I need to start looking into the other schools and seeing how long my wait may be there

Try not to get too down. It is possible that it is not really that long - maybe some people will change their mind, drop out, start the program and decide it's not for them or too hard, etc. And who knows what their GPA's are. Of course it's always a good idea to explore your options. Keep your chin up.

Thanks I am definitely trying to do so! I know that it won't happen overnight but it seems like it is taking forever to get anywhere! I am hoping that sooner or later I will get the break I am looking for. I have my list of places that I would like to apply to and also the classes that I need to take to get into those so I will be very busy!

To MsAshley...I have been on the waitlist since August 2008. You are doing the right thing by checking into other colleges now. I wish I would have done that sooner. I have heard I am in, in May 2010 but am not getting too excited yet. Just waiting until I get that letter before I really believe anything I hear. I got a letter over summer 09 that said the waitlist is now 2-3 years at HFCC so it has gotten a year longer than I was told when I got on the list. Everyone I knew got in under a year until now. Now it seems to be almost two years before people are getting in. And I hold an extremely high GPA which doesn't matter at HFCC. Look into some of the BSN programs around here. There are some fantastic ones. Good luck and try to stay positive although I do feel your pain.

See and thats what I am afraid of. I know a lot of people say that the wait won't be that long because people will get in other places and pass and things like that. I still don't think that enough people will pass to get me in within the year!! Hopefully I will see my hard work pay off some time soon!!

Geez, I have never been the person to wish misfortune on others....

But I really, really, really hope to get in before my NET expires....

Please...

There is no way that a 3 year wait is gonna happen....no siree bob

I was put on the wait list 12/21/09. I am number 781 on the list!!!! I figure I will start the program Spring or Fall of 2012! It is insane! Very discouraging! WCCC is no longer accepting any new students b/c they are at there max capacity. All my classes are full of nursing students. Something needs to change!!

In regards to your NET test from what I have "heard" from HFCC is that the NET is not going to expire because of the long waits. Mine expires in March this year...so we shall see. And MsAshley I hate to say it but I would really doubt that, that many people would pass in order for you to get in within a year. It is just crazy right now. So many people are waiting to get in EVERYWHERE!! Look into the universities and see what you need to go there. It is an option and a pretty good one at that. And good lord number 700 something! I can't believe how long the list is getting it is so insane. You should also look into the universities.

Oh No don't say that about WCCC!! U have me worried now because I transferred schools just to take a class I needed for hfcc that I couldnt get into at WCCC but planned to transfer back to WCCC so that I could apply to their program as well. Now I have to contact the nursing department there and make sure that I didn't ruin my chances for their list too!!:uhoh3:
