Anyone apply to the accelerated Michigan State University or U of M program for '10?

U.S.A. Michigan

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who applied to the Michigan State or University of Michigan accelerated programs for 2010? I applied to both but haven't heard anything back yet. I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard anything. Thanks! :)

:sofahider Is today the day or will the agony of waiting for the letters continue? My sister was saying that post offices have been cutting back on work days so maybe we can't even count Saturday. Likely they didn't get dispatched until Monday so I am thinking today for 'sure'. LOL. Good luck everyone. Since you guys get your mail earlier than me, let me know if you got them.

I sure hope it comes today. Having to spend another day thinking that I'm going to get a letter then I don't, would be agonizing! :banghead: I just really want to know...even if it's a rejection letter, I would feel better knowing.

My mail comes early. It should come in less then an hour. I'll let everyone know if the letter finally comes!!

Good luck to everyone today! :D

I agree, I just want to know one way or the other. I am trying to stay positive but with only 50 getting in, I just don't know anymore. I wish they could take more students. I just want to know soon so I know whether or not to focus on the other three schools.

Well I just received some good news and bad news. The good news is my letter finally came so everyone should get thier letter today. The bad news for me is I was rejected. Bummer. :crying2:

I hope everyone else gets some better news!

Hi TC, I'm so sorry to hear. I am not expecting good news either. Not that I am a pessimistic person but I realize they can only take the top 50. I hope you can get in somewhere else and I am sure you will. I am not sure how open you are to other programs but Oakland and UDM are good options and from what I hear, they are a little less competitive than others. The only problem with Oakland is you have to wait a year to start but you do need to take 3 nursing classes the semester before you begin so it's not too bad. I am interviewing next week for January 2011 start.

TC - did it say why you were rejected. Maybe you should try calling an advisor and asking. I plan on doing that if I don't get in.

The letter didn't say why. It was a standard letter saying they had many qualified applicants and unfortunately I didn't make it. I know it's because of my GPA from my first degree. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. I'm still waited to hear from UofM but if I didn't get into state I doubt UofM will take me. I am probably going to start looking at other options.

Don't give up on U of M - I have heard some say State is harder to get in to. I think U of M takes 65 but they may also get more applicants - not sure. Plus, if you get on the waiting list, you might still get lucky. I'm glad I have 4 schools going. I really don't think they look too much at the undergrad GPA because they really just want to know if you can handle the program. The more recent classes are a better indicator of that. Likely they just had too many qualified candidates. I wish you the best.

Oh TC, I'm so sorry that you didn't get into MSU....BUMMER! :crying2:

Keep your head up, though. These schools are so competitive to get into... Does MSU have a wait list? Are you on it??

Like ejcl68 said, they do take your previous degree GPA into account, but not as much as they do your current prereq GPA. My overall from my first degree is 3.1 and I somehow got into UM. I worked my *ss off on my prereqs and earned a 4.0 in every one (except Patho, but got a 3.7 in it). So I know that they took my prereq grades and essays into account more than my overall GPA.

I'm telling ya, UD Mercy is a great option. You could probably start pretty soon and I think their standards to get in are a little lower than MSU and UM. Plus, they have 2 sessions of 60 people each year. Good luck to you, keep us posted when you hear from UM.

I didn't get in either. Oh well. Like I said, I'm happy I have three other programs I am waiting on. I figured I had the least chance of getting in at MSU so no big surprise. I don't know what I could have done better. Good luck to everyone!!!

Hmmm...my mail just came and I didn't get into MSU either. I wonder who they actually accepted! I'm glad MSU wasn't my first choice, but I thought for sure I'd get in there. Funny...how did I get into UofM, but not MSU?! I'm at State fan through and through, but seriously, UofM is a harder school to get into. Or so I thought.

HI Gumby1411, I'm not sure who got into MSU. I know I have seen threads in which people got rejected for MSU but got into U of M. I think U of M actually does consider more things than just grades when they pick people(which is a good thing). I believe MSU mainly looks at grades and maybe TC was right - the undergrad GPA counts. I was a 3.0 undergrad but I got my degree in Chemistry so I figured they would understand why. But since I had a 3.7 cumulative in nursing pre-reqs. I am beginning to think getting into nursing is as hard as getting into medical school!!! Go figure. At the info meeting they told me the average GPA was around ~ 3.4-3.5 for last years class. I guess many more qualified candidates are applying. Good luck at U of M!!! It's the top nursing program in the state so you can't go wrong.
