Anyone apply to the accelerated Michigan State University or U of M program for '10?

U.S.A. Michigan

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who applied to the Michigan State or University of Michigan accelerated programs for 2010? I applied to both but haven't heard anything back yet. I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard anything. Thanks! :)

I think it will come today. The letters were mailed out on Friday so it should be any day now. Good luck to all of us!! Is this the first choice for all of you?? I applied to three other schools as well and they all have good things about them. I have an interview next week. I just want to get in somewhere..it's so competitive.

I only applied to MSU and UofM. I was going to apply to Detroit Mercy but then I realized how much it costs and decided not to. MSU is my first choice since this is where I did my first undergrad. I just really hope I get in somewhere too, but it's so competitive I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't. MSU says they use pathophysiology as an indicator of how well you'll do in the program and since I'm currently taking the class don't have a grade for that class yet. It sucks because I'm doing really well in that class...I wish they could see that! If I don't get in this year I think I'm going to apply next year.

Hi TC,

I too have my doubts about getting into MSU. That being said, I have been super impressed with the college of nursing at MSU. Of the 4 schools I have applied to, my GPA is competitive but lowest for MSU. They don't look at Basic Bio or Organic Chemistry in which I got 4.0's. But I can't worry about that. If they truly look at more than grades, I have a decent shot. I took Patho this past semester and got an A- by the seat of my pants - that class was tough. But I don't know if that will be enough. What I really liked about MSU is they look at other things as well (outside of grades) whereas many of the other schools I applied to strictly look at GPA. I think you should look into UDM. I have heard very good things about the school and there are grants out there to help. I know their tuition is outrageous but depending on where you work, the hospitals may pay a good portion of it back for you. Don't let money stop you but I can understand it's a big factor. For me, I will pay whatever just to get into a program. I have heard so many tell me that they had 2 or more rejections until they finally got in. if you think about it, the longer it takes to get in, that's salary you lose being a nurse. There's so much overtime available to nurses so I am not worried about the money. Just let me in!!! O.k. I'm rambling. Take care and I wish you all the best.:D

Thanks! I guess you're right about UDM, the sooner I get into a school the sooner I can make money! Do you know if there is an application deadline?

I hope the MSU letter comes today! Good luck!!! :)

I don't know about the deadline but I think they start in May so it may be too late for this year. I hope the letter comes in too!! I'm excited but nervous. If I get accepted, May is right around the corner. But it's better than waiting till Fall or later. I'm ready to start.

oh I know! I would start tomorrow if I could! lol. I am so ready. I hope I get in because I would hate to do another year of applying and waiting!

TC, are you planning on living on campus or commuting. For me, its about 70 miles one way but from what I hear, classes are only 3 days a week. So I don't mind commuting 1 hour + but it's not ideal. I may get an apartment but this just adds to the cost(unless I get something cheap). I don't know what rentals are going for in e. lansing.

If I get in I'm planing on living in East Lansing. I'm currently finishing up my prerequisites here and I have a one-bedroom apt by myself. Apartments can be expensive here! I got a deal on the one I have now because I moved down here in January and it's a sublease. Getting a place in Lansing can be cheaper and you're still not far from campus. My friend has an apartment in Haslett and it's not too expensive. That's only a 15min drive to campus. If you decided to get an apartment here I think you could definitely find a good deal if you don't mind living a little further out from campus. The only down side is parking on campus kinda sucks. When I'm on campus I park in one of the parking ramps and then walk to where I need to go. You can also buy a parking pass in the commuter lot but it's far away from campus. Most people park there and take the bus in.

Thanks. I think for the winter months, I will definitely need a place. We had 8 inches of snow yesterday and I couldn't imagine driving to East Lansing in that stuff especially if classes are early in the morning.. My mail comes at 3:00 p.m. so I still have 4 hours to wait. Uggh.. I am hoping it's a big envelope. :) Hoping for good news for all of us. Being a male, I wonder if my odds are worse. I don't know but at the hospital I work at, I see few men as RN's. I doubt they look at gender but I sometimes worry about that.

So my mail just came and there was no letter! ahhhh!! This waiting game is killing me. I hope your letter comes today. Maybe I didn't get mine because it's going to my address in Traverse City and it might take an extra day to get there. My mom calls me everyday when the mail comes so instead of waiting for an envelope, I wait for a phone call everyday.

I would think being male gives you a better chance! Since there is a lack of male nurses I have always thought males stand a better chance of getting in. Being a guy might help you get in!

Hi all. I applied to MSU and UofM. I've been accepted into UM, which was my first choice, so I'm pumped about that. My 3rd and 4th choices were UofD Mercy and Oakland University.

I really think you should look into UD Mercy. I was getting ready to apply there when I got my acceptance to UM. Yes, the program is super expensive, but there are a lot more opportunities for grant money because it's a private university. Also, they have two sessions, so one starts in May, the other in January. So, you're too late to get into the May session, but could probably get into the January session. I have a friend that just started their program this past January and she loves it so far. Plus, since it is so expensive, there are less people applying, which ups your odds of getting in.

My mail just arrived...no letter from MSU.
