Male Nurse Hair Styles

I'm new to the site and before opening this thread I browsed around to see if there were any topics open or even comments on male nurse hair styles. All of the current (to my knowledge) are just hair styles or tips for females which makes sense given the occupation. So if I missed a forum on this topic I apologize. But as the subject states I simply am curious as to what is expected from a male nurse in regards to his doo!

I am starting first year nursing and though my hairstyle may be acceptable through school and maybe not, I figured I'd ask from different sources. I currently have a faux hawk, which essentially is a mo-hawk with short hair on the sides. The center strip isn't any more than 2-3 inches in length so it's not outrageous but it is a little more exotic and wild than most. The reason I'm curious and I don't just cut my hair is, I feel my hair is in some ways apart of my personality. It may sound strange, but I've had this hair style since I was a little boy and I've grown into it.

So, what hair styles are suitable for male nurses?

Their spiky looks impressed us a lot..It looks more trendy some times men also opt hair braiding styles for both long and short hairs..

Krzysztof - I'm losing that battle and have started just using a grade 1 trimmer all over every few weeks to get used to the ide of becoming fully bald in next few years!

I ahve been asked at work to keep my goatee biker beard in check but only by one manager who has far too much time on her hands and even complained when I work a 'colourful' scub cap one day.

It's been eight months for me, brother. Hairmageddon, I call it.

The remaining 65% grows like hell, so it's buzz buzz every week or so. More yardwork for less square footage. What a beach.

If none of your instructors dont have a problem, then no problem. If one strongly suggests you change your hairstyle, I think the path of least resistance is to not gel it up on the days that she sees you. That being said, let me preface this with the fact that I currently have hair a quarter way down my back. It is a serious mop. I pull it back in a pony tail when at work and nobody has a problem with it, however I have been in nursing a long time and have been with my present employer for a while and really have nothing I need to prove anymore. I have cut my hair short and conservative when I have interviewed for jobs that I really want. Like a previous poster said if an employer has two candidates with equal skills but one has a style out that looks rebellious, chances are that the employer will pick the more mainstream looking candidate.

For me, I too had the faux hawk, but when I interviewed, I went really conservative. As a manager now, I change it up often, but it is usually faux hawked or spiked, depending on the mood and the last haircut. As far as I know, they love my hair :)

I have long hair. it needs to be well-kept and stylish.

People won't judge you for your hair though; they'll judge you for who you are as a person and an RN

Abandon your boyish haircut and opt for a mans haircut. As a new student nurse you shouldn't look like you're ready to go fist pumping with the situation. Anyway I'd suggest watching a show called "Mad Men" and observe those kinds of haircut. Though it may not be specific to nursing it's specific to men.

I optfor the the don draper look. (If you watch the show you'll know or if you know how to use google) My hair is cut in that fashion now and I do get compliments from my female nursing classmates.

Also recommend using "groom and clean" as a hair product.

At the risk of veering off topic...

You do realize that one of the main points of the show Mad Men and Don Draper is that the belief that the mid-century was some sort of era of innocence and/or chivalry is a bunch of hogwash. And the appearnce that "men were men" and women were women" and of moral superiority was just that, a veneer. All the smart haircuts and suits and dresses can't hide that.

As the show shows, there was sexual harrasment, racial discrimination, closeted homosexuality, corruption, drug use and poverty. People smoked like chimnys and drank like fish. They slept around.

In other words, they were real people, not heroes of some bygone golden age. It was an age that was anything but innocent. No better or worse than any other era, including the current one.
