Do male nurses wear scrub jackets???

I'm not talking about lab coats. I'm talking about the thin and light scrub jackets that have buttons on them and the tapered, elastic cuffs. Mostly I see only women nurses and lab techs wearing these, what about male nurses when it gets extra cold?

Maybe try a long sleeve shirt or underarmor? I've seen a guy wear a scrub jacket once and it looked awkward.

Scrub jackets are required in the OR, I don't feel unmanly when I wear one there. On the other hand, when I work in the ED, if I'm cold I wear my fleece. It's handier and more comfortable.

Required in some procedural areas as well because it gets cold

We had to buy and wear a matching scrub jacket when I was in nursing school. If I recall, we were supposed to wear it when transitioning from "the patient care area" to other "general access areas." Oddly enough, we were not allowed to wear it around patients. The school's premise was that the jacket was germ velcro and that pathogens could and would only adhere to the jacket thus allowing us to be sterile saviors for our assigned patients.

I thought they looked ridiculous on guys, and after I wore mine twice I eventually started rolling it up and carrying around. The teachers never said anything so I transitioned from occasionally not taking it, to which nothing was said, and then finally not taking it to clinical at all. Again, nothing was said.

Oh, and the "faculty" call them our "lab jackets" which to me means lab coat, and scrub jackets are not lab coats. Truth be told, I can't stand scrubs in general.

When I was working with patients in the hospital, as a RN after I'd finished school, I wore some less than nurse-like apparel. I wore hiking shoes because they're comfortable and fluid proof as well as somewhat warmer than tennis shoes (my toes get cold); tactical pants because they had a lot of pockets, were more durable than scrubs, and it amused me to wear something labeled as "tactical" while nursing; and I wore my fleece when I was cold. Now, I wear business casual to work and look like an insurance salesman.

Nope, but I have seen one of the male nurses wear it before. Looks ridiculous on a guy.

I wear one most shifts if I get cold. Scrubs are more about comfort and convenience than esthetics.

Our guys wear them...they look fine. We aren't allowed to wear long sleeves or fleeces, so they wear the jacket between care if it is chilly.
