Do Male Nurses Get More Respect?
No actually I find we get less respect. Outside the profession we get even less than that.

Confess! Whats the craziest force of habit you've done in the "Real World"
I will occasionally put LPN after my name on non nursing paperwork out of habit. I knock on every door when I'm tired (one morning i was really tired and knocked in the closet door and waited for someone to say come in) and have answered my cell phone at home and off duty with "A station this is Jay, how can I help you?"

Wound assistant
Thank you

Wound assistant
I was told at clinicals that there was a wound certification for LPNs, I was curious if anyone knows anything about it. I am certified in NY state.

What would you change about your scrubs??
As a male nurse I would like to see more scrubs with designs for guys. Also never enough pockets
-
Do male nurses wear scrub jackets???
I wear one most shifts if I get cold. Scrubs are more about comfort and convenience than esthetics.

Starting Class for CNA in Jan.
Pay attention to details, remember you will be the nurses eyes and ears at times. Treat each pt with dignity and compassion. The skills are easy and can be learned by anyone willing to do so, it's the heart that makes or breaks a good nurse

No confidence in lab skills
Skills never feel solid in the lab, once you get out there and start interacting wiyh real patients you will be fine. It's normal to feel nervous. Just don't let the patient see it. Remember the indirect cares (knocking introducing yourself etc.) And keep a comfident smile and you will make it through. Good luck

accucheck help
Hold the lancet against the finger for a second after you activate it. Then squeeze the finger a little until you have a nice drop. The gravity tip helps too, if you can keep the hand below heart level.

How many men in your cohort?
Our program started out with 30 only 2 of us male. While we have been losing students both of us are still going. Jay the CNA

study crash?
I do think I overthink the questiins sometimes. I even second guess things from time to time when the answer seems to obvious. My instructor tells us to go with the gut feeling and never change an answer unless I'm positive about the change (ie a later question answers the original one) Jay the CNA

study crash?
I'm hearing two major things here, focus on my weak points and breaking up the study time. I am going to try both. Thanks guys Jay the CNA

study crash?
I do the study guide and the test reviews our instructor gives, I also do all the drug cards that are assigned each week. Sometimes I study alone and sometimes with my girlfriend or classmates.

Tattoos
I'm curious about opinions on this, my teachers are from the old school theory and don't like them on nurses. Anyone else face this bias? How do you overcome this?
-
Earrings?
I have several piercings in both ears, I am expected to follow the same guidlines the women are, I am permitred one stud in each ear and must remove the others while on clinical site. We are rather casual in class so I am allowed to wear all of them if I like.
