  2. PTO accrual

Thanks everyone for your input! Year one earns 1.5hrs per pay period (72 hours). Year 2-4 earns 4.5 hrs per pay period. Blah!
  3. PTO accrual

Hi everyone, I am considering a new position and the PTO accrual for the first year of employment is next to nothing. Would you mind sharing with me the percentage that your facility uses for the first year of employment? Thanks!
  4. when to call for delivery, active management & patience

I'm interested to see your answers. I agree with #1, it is very hard to predict and time just right. But it is there job to be there. I worked nights. Sounds like you work days, which be a little more difficult to coordinate. I think #4 isn't a bad i...
  5. "Short Staffed......."

lindarn, Excellent post! So very true. Not to take away from teachers and the struggles that they face, but we are talking lives (mother and baby) in our hands. My husband was asking me the other day to explain nursing staffing to him to L&D. I t...
  6. OB Antepartum Care Plan

Whenever anyone falls we always draw "abruption labs". CBC, Fibrin Split Products, Fibrinogen, ABO-RH and a Kleihauer-Betke Stain. We generally observe mom and baby and repeat the blood work in 6-12 hours depending on how often they order it.

    I think it would hurt!
  8. possible to be ruptured and be closed?

I think the OP is referring to rupture of membranes....those are my least favorite to admit. Ruptured and closed...and armed with a birthplan. Always feel so bad for them!
  9. pre-delivery "grooming" issue?

I've never had a patient tell me that their doctor told them to, but I bet they are influenced by what friends or family tell them. If the subject comes up, I tell them that we definitely do not shave anyone. Except if they need a c/s, we'll shave ne...
  10. pre-delivery "grooming" issue?

Perhaps I am the lone waxer here. I agree with the others that it is not right to not do it if it is an expectation, but I do it because I prefer it. The reason I wax as opposed to shaving is because when it grows back it does not itch! No razor burn...

  12. help w/ cervical effacement

I agree with klone, it is very, very subjective. I usually err on the the conservative side and reserve 100% to paper-thin. As long as you tell if there has been change or no change is what is really important!
  13. hotel stays

Anyone here ever stay in a hotel during the the day between 7p-7a shifts? Are the rates lower than at night? I am looking into a contract with a 2 hour commute and this would be the only way I'd consider to do it. Thanks!
  14. Recovery for vaginal delivery

I don't know how you'd ever get all of that done within 2 hours after placenta and you didn't even mention all of the charting and teaching involved!
  15. Vag Exams & Dilation

When the patient is 8 or more, I feel around the whole head and estimate how much is left of the cervix. So one fingertip=9cm, almost 2 fingertips=8 cm. It is also not uncommon for the cervix to be complete on one side and 8 or 9 cm on the other. In ...
