Anyone here ever stay in a hotel during the the day between 7p-7a shifts? Are the rates lower than at night? I am looking into a contract with a 2 hour commute and this would be the only way I'd consider to do it.

Thanks!

I stayed in a hotel when I traveled. I was about 2 hours from home and worked 7p-7a. I talked with the hotel manager about the situation and he worked it out to where I checked in at 730am after I got done with my shift and I worked out a consistent room rate for all 13 weeks of my contract (hotels change room rates based on what day of the week and holidays, tues and wed are cheaper days to stay in a hotel). I just let them know what my schedule was as soon as I knew I always had a room. My hotel was really nice to me and I always had the same room for all 13 weeks. There were many times that I was the only person on third floor of the hotel.

I have done the same thing at two different assignments.

One location I worked at like this the hotels were completely booked all the time so I ended up actually paying for 4 nights. Not sure why you think it might be cheaper to stay during the day than at night. Typically, one checks into a hotel after 3pm and must check out before 11am (give or take an hour or so on both). So, if you think about it, it's difficult to check in AFTER working that first night and arriving at 7am. It's also difficult to not to keep the room for the final night because I know I sleep until 3 or 4 then get ready, which means I don't leave for work until 530 or 6pm.

Another place I worked at, the rooms were pretty empty. I ended up using priceline for a 2 or 3 star hotel and only payed around $30/night. It all depends on what you can find. You might even be able to talk the hotel into allowing you check in the morning after that first night, and then checking out just before your last shift. Thus, only paying for 2 nights.

I really don't see this as a good option if you aren't working at least 3 in a row. Just my :twocents:.

I have lived at two residence hotels and paid their weekly rate. I let the front desk know that I did not need to have housekeeping visit or anyone else for that matter, and kept the do not disturb sign on my door. For the most part, hotel staff were pretty nice about leaving me undisturbed.
