Well, Should a LPN be paid as much as an RN... Should a CNA be paid as much as a LPN?

I say no... the amount of schooling should be related to how much monetary compensation(good phrase, by the way) you recieve...

If I do not have a college degree, or any nursing training, $12-15 an hour is pretty darn good...

If I have 1 year of nursing training, and have passed the state boards for LPN, which does not constitute a degree, 15-20 an hour is pretty darn good...

If I have at least 2 years of nursing training, an AAS or BSN, and the state boards for RN, heck, 20+ an hour isint that bad...

(be mindful, I'm talking boros of NYC here...)

Thankyou for caring about the hard working cna's. Many cna's make less than eight dollars an hour several of them are on welfare and raising their families below the poverty level. Ihave worked beside these folks for over eight years. I am payed fairly well but I only work on the weekends. I am a college graduate and will be leaving my cna career behind me. I have tried to encourage many of the cna's to pursue further education with some success. Nurses should make more because they know the craft of nursing. Respect is a bigger issue with cna's.

$12/hr? Where I work CNAs make $6/hr. and they work ther buns off. I'm an LPN and make a lot more than they do, but if it weren't for the CNAs, think of the work that we would have to do. I respect the CNAs I work with. I am not demanding or ride their backs. When I do ask them to do something for me, they do not hesitate. Some of the other nurses degrade them, yell at them, follow them around and try to tell them how to do their jobs. When these nurses really need the CNAs the CNAs are not as enthusiastic to help. I don't blame them. If I worked for that little bit of pay and was always being hounded, I wouldn't be very enthusiastic about my job either.

the $12/hr salary is from somebody i know who had worked for more than 10 years as a cna.

12.00/hr as a CNA would be great here in Northern Michigan, As a RN, (18.94/hr base, mileage,with benefits, although not the best) who has a sister who is a CNA,(8.65/hr,no benefits)in a ECF, this topic is hotly debated in my family, I too started out as a CENA, then LPN, then ADN, and now BSN, somedays I wish I could go back to just worrying about giving so and so a bath, the mental stress and responsiblity is the difference really, my sister hits the road when her shift is done and no more worries,(although she does care deeply for her patients) I on the other hand have to worry about making sure everything was done and charted, and wait for that Dr. to call me back,at his convienence, anyway, the CNA's where my sister works are always calling off, and or are late, and really have no vested interest in their jobs, I feel if they were paid better, or even were given good benefits, the quality of CNA's would improve, my sister complains about all those "LAZY NURSES" sitting at the desk charting all night, well she doesn't see the other side, although she also complains about her coworker-CNA's calling off, all the time too so, with her I just can't win. But like other posters have said it takes a Team to make it work, and with the HHA's (top pay about 8.00/hr, mileage and benefits)I work with and supervise as a Home Health Nurse, its a great feeling knowing the patients, at least those at home, are very well cared for, by RN's and aides alike. Just my 2cents, I agree with the pay structure mentioned by the first poster. I started as a nurse's aide in 1972 for $8 and change then! Became an LPN then an RN in 1978 starting at $10/hr now currently @$30/hr as RN AAS degree 23yrs experience. WOW our society has got to start valuing caretakers at the bedside...if we can pay sports people millions MAYBE we should tell them to care for their own family members cause we won't do it for peanuts ....how about agents for us!
