New grad salary in Boston hospitals?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

I want to work in Boston after I finish my BSN, and was wondering what entry level salaries are like, particularly at MGH or Children's Memorial or BIDMC? Any ideas? I know NYC starts around 65-75k and was wondering if Boston was just a bit below that?

I work at BIDMC. If you start work after Jan 08 the starting salary for new grads will be $27.62/hr not counting your ppc (BIDMC has no diff). With your ppc it should be about $29.30/hr. If you work more evenings than days it will be higher (you get the ppc no matter what shift you work). I have been told the following: Childrens Hosp has a similar salary structure to BIDMC. Mass General Hospitals starts there new grads at $27.75/hr not counting diffs. Brigham and Womens start at $29.85/hr not counting diffs, and Boston Medical Center new grads start at $30.00 not counting diffs.

Can someone explain what ppc means?

I could be wrong but I think that's another way of stating what a diff. would be.

Interesting thread. Does anyone have information about Lahey Clinic? What would the staring salary be and weekend diffs? Thank you

I only have heard chatter, but I think their base pay is low compared with other community hospitals in the area.

I work at BIDMC and PPC stands for professional pay category. The whole thing is confusing..but pretty much..if you work a rotation..say day/evening or day/night- you get a set amount in addition to your base pay so kind of like a differential pay- but that amount stays the same whether you work days evenings or nights. If you work more evenings or nights than days..your PPC goes up, if you work more days, your PPC goes down. Sorry if this sounds confusing! Hope this helps.

What about Saints Medical Center in Lowell, MA? Does anyone know what the base rate is and the differentials? Thanks...

Correction: New grad at Mt Auburn

29+/hr

Eve diff 2.25

Night diff 3.25

Weekend diff 1.75

Weekend night diff 5.00

BIDMC did away with the PPC several months ago- now we actually get diffs- Weeknights are 4.60, weekend nights 7.00. Evenings I believe is like 2.50 and weekend evenings I think is 5.00.

Does anyone have contact information or a website link to someone who could provide me with more information about the critical care new grad residency program at Mass. General? Or even someone who I could send my resume to?

Thanks!

I know this is a Boston hospital salary thread, but does anyonw know the new RN grad starting pay at Caritas Christi Healthcare hospitals?

Caritas is a network of hospitals and each hospital offers a different pay scale. St. Eliz in Brighton offers $27.75/hr as starting pay plus differentials. Norwood is also a Caritas hospital and the starting pay is below $25. That was a year ago and things might have changed.
