Wish me luck, everyone!

I'm starting orientation today & need happy thoughts--I was excited yesterday, but woke up really nervous--and all it is today is HR orientation, your typical fire safety, etc videos.

I can't believe it's finally happening!!

It went well. I spent the day with the nurse who is our unit coordinator on days to learn all her paperwork (she's not there on eves, so since I will work eves I need to know what she does so I can do it when it needs doing for my pts) & also had training for the computer system. I like the computer system we're using because it seems fairly self explanatory & also won't let you sign off a BP med unless you entered the pts BP/pulse, won't let you sign off an insulin unless you entered the blood sugar, etc, which is good in general & I think is a good reminder for a new nurse.

As far as it goes schedule-wise, this coming week I'll precept on days, and will eventually switch over to precepting on eves, since this is what I will work. Everyone I have met on the unit seems very nice. Although I worked in this facility before, I never knew anyone on the TCU, except for a family friend who works in the TCU kitchen. I bet this must throw her for a loop, because she's known my mom since my mom was pregnant with me! LOL.

Good luck to you NurseKatie! I am about halfway through my orientation and am looking forward (with trepidation) my flying solo in a few weeks.

Good luck to you, too. I'm about 2 weeks in, and am going attempt to fly semi-solo next week. For a while I did the med passes & half of the notes, then moved up to the med passes & all of the notes. Now I've been working on treatments & admit/discharge/lab/other paperwork & stuff in the computer system. I'm most nervous about putting it all together and trying to do everything, so my preceptor is going to let me give it a shot next week (of course she & a million other people will be within arms reach for support & reminders, but they're going to let me try to do everything.) My floor is short-term/subacute, so the ratio is 11:1, although due to discharges my team only had 7 patients when I left today. The ratio is much less overwhelming than I thought it would be, because while many of the patients on my team can be very complex, there always are a handful that don't need much other than their scheduled meds & maybe a minor dressing change. I love it so far, but here's hoping that it keeps going well. :dncgbby:
