VJC and Towson BSN grads/current students

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello, looking forward to hearing from anyone with info on any of these programs. I am currently an RN and looking to do RN-BSN. Relatively new to Baltimore so I dont know much about the nsg schools and their reps (at least not from students/grads) point of view. I tried UMaryland but i dont believe they are geared toward the needs of working people. EX administration offices often close btwn 4-5P. So if you work--- oh well

Thanx

Hello

I am an RN and went to a CC in Baltimore but I may be able to help a bit. U of MD is one of the top ranked schools. They have an RN-BSN online. Don't know much about Towson or VJC. College of Notre Dame has an RN-BSN that is geared towards individuals who work supposed to be a good program. Good Luck!

Thanx for your reply nurse1day, I really appreciate it. I took 2 classes at Umaryland this fall (last final on Sat). the issue is they don't seem to offer any evening classes and I work 7a-3:30p. The online RN-BSN is really not for me--- don't do independant study too well I'm old fashioned and really need the structure of the classroom. I checked into Notre Dame but it seems a bit complex ( cohorts) religion classes --- yikes, 12 years of catholic shcool.

Again thanx for the reply I will keep looking --- if you hear anything please keep me posted. BTW are you going for your BSN?

If you are seriously considering VJC, I would ask some questions about their current accreditation status. I heard they were on probation with the accrediting body due to repeated low pass rates on the NCLEX.

Hello....I'm attending VJC, I find there curriculum to be very flexible when it comes to work and family, I work fulltime and attend school partime....you may want to research their options

I love VJC; I am working full time, and taking classes part time. They are very flexible; faculty is fabulous, very helpful, encouraging, and supportive. I would recommend this school. I never thought I can do it, but I am doing well so far. Good luck!

The original post on this topic is quite old, but for the interest of others, the fall 2007 MD Board of Nursing newsletter notes that Villa Julie BSN degree nursing only has a 77.5% NCLEX passing rate. "Program fell below required passing rate for Maryland schools for the second consecutive year and is on conditional approval from the board of nursing."

Good point. They are still recruiting students though and their program did sound really interesting to me also. While I wouldn't ever want to be in the position of having a school shut down while I'm in the middle of the program I never really placed much weight on the NCLEX results. I wonder if the RN to BSN program would be affected?

As far as I know their low passing rate has nothing to do with RN-BSN program.

Here's the info directly from the MBON

The chart says it is the BSN program. I don't know what happens if they lose approval from the board of nursing. Their pass rate is just a hair below the state required minimum. Bowie State appears to be in big trouble!
