University of Maryland Spring 2010 Accepted Students

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi all soon to be fellow classmates! I just wanted to start this thread up so we didn't have to go weaving through all of the older stuff on the old threads.

I am really excited about starting school come January, really nervous though too. I have a lot to get done between now and then and sometimes I just don't think there is enough time in the day. Oh well, I plan on enjoying the holidays and working my buns off to save some money so that isn't an additional stressor during the first semester.

So lets post our questions, our thoughts and hopefully just get to know one another! And again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

If we have lab allll day tomorrow are we supposed to be wearing our uniforms for the first day? Wasn't sure. Not trying to be the only nerd walking in while everyone else isn't wearing it. That would totally happen to me hahah. Good luck tomorrow guys!! :)

Hello.

same question here. Not trying to be the only nerd walkin in school while everyone else isn't wearing it. lol

Hi All.

Should we make a separate forum for SG students (or I guess we can use BB)? It gets confusing to differentiate between SG or Bmore students on here. Anyways, SG labs don't start till next week. I've seen people wear their uniforms already on campus so you won't be a nerd. You'll be nice and professionally dressed! Good luck this semester!

Does anyone know anything about the Pre Check code for the UMSON? I asked the school and was told to ask around essentially.

Also HIPPAA? Do we need to go online and take a test? I looked it up on Blackboard and found a sort of review and looked over it, then I did a search and found a free practice test and I basically knew nothing asked.

I found a flashcard site that seems to have lots of Nursing courses on there. It might just be another resource we won't have time to go over but it seemed helpful to me.

If anyone feels like braving the snow tonight 1/30 , my band is playing the Aural Fest at Sonar in Baltimore. I'm not big on self promotion but this is actually a really good show with 10 or so really good bands from Baltimore. My band the Sick Sick Birds will go on around 8pm but I think it starts at 6pm and goes pretty late. This will most likely be my last chance to play with them till after finals so if you see they are playing after tonight still try to check them out. And if you make it out tonight introduce yourselves. I am seriously nervous about school and the only consolation is knowing everyone is in the same position.

In response to thethumbs questions

Does anyone know anything about the Pre Check code for the UMSON? I asked the school and was told to ask around essentially.

1. Precheck must be done before you start clinicals, it takes 2-3 days to complete. I would recommend doing it early. Just go to http://www.precheck.com or https://weborder.precheck.net/StudentCheck/studentmain.aspx (should direct you to selection of our school/code. Make sure you pick the right school, something like UMB nursing). After you selected it, fill out the information and there's a fee of $48.50. Then you're done!

Also HIPPAA? Do we need to go online and take a test? I looked it up on Blackboard and found a sort of review and looked over it, then I did a search and found a free practice test and I basically knew nothing asked.

2. Yes, so you already reviewed the HIPPA ppt which is listed under BB course N304 Assignments. Once you understand the ppt (which is quick and easy), there are 4 questions you need to answer a t the end. **Hint** The exact questions in the ppt are what you need to answer for the "online test" (link is below the ppt link). Good luck.

I hope this clarifies everything. Be safe in the snow if people are out and about. I hope your show will still bring people out!

Oh. And would you mind sharing the link to the flashcard site that you found useful? Thanks.

I started looking at the Pharmacology and it looks like some of the exact slides from the first two lectures. So maybe somebody from a past class put them up.

Do you know the code for Pre Check?

The show was good. I am in school mode though now so I was only thinking how much I need to get done to prepare for next week.

Ok thanks for the help. I did the Pre Check. The first time it seized up on me. But the 2nd time worked.

Now the HIPPAA is giving me problems. So you said you were able to take the test?

I got this when I tried:

Assessment not available

Sorry, this assessment is not available to you either because it has not been scheduled or because there are no attempts remaining. Please contact your instructor.

no luck for me. I will ask the professor.

thanks again for the help.

Hi thethumbs. i assume you're at Bmore campus.... but the BB should all work for us. A couple of us in class have done the HIPPA. I think you will have to ask the teacher regarding that. You still got time before that's "due". I'm glad you got thru with Pre-Check though.

And, thanks for the flashcards link. It looks promising. I feel behind in some of the classes already! I understand how you feel about being in school mode! Good luck.

No I am at Shady grove. I have a mac so maybe that is my problem with the HIPPAA link.

I am the old guy. I might be one of the oldest there. I was talking to one of the people I have met and mentioned taking a pre requisite math class in 1990. He responded " I was born in 1990." yikes. anyway.

Yes I definitely feel behind already. I am frantically reviewing A/P stuff and trying not to get behind on the current reading.

I think I have decided to just let the copy center print everything out. I have been printing out the slides little by little but can see how easily it could get messed up.

So the patch goes on the right side on the top and ... the left arm of the lab coat? am I right? ... I couldn't find the directions for the lab coat in the handbook.

yes. you're right about the locations of the patches.

right side on scrubs, name tag on left.

then, on lab coat, the patch is on the left side of your arm.

btw. thethumbs, doesn't it still cost money for the copy center to print the slides?

I think the study guide booklet for one of our classes (was it for N320?) is ready for pick-up.

TheThumbs - I have opened the HIPPA link and one is a powerpoint and the other is the actual test. Maybe you can ask those guys at the computer lab on the second floor to help you if you can't get it working by the end of this weekend. I am at SG as well. Hope this information puts your mind at ease :)
