Prospective students, tell me what you think? I need opinions :)

Okay, last semester I was rejected from two schools, so I am obviously taking steps to better my chances. I am volunteering at UMMC, have retaken A&PII (my only C) and earned an A (yayyyy me!!), took Medical Terminology just for the heck of it, and am enrolled in a Bio Coop course this coming fall. In addition, I am definitely tweaking my statement of goals to add the above changes.

My TEAS is where I am on the fence about. I have scored a "higher" proficient, and am debating on taking it over. I am not 100% sure I can make it to advanced, so I am not sure what to do!

What do you think? Spend the money and just take a chance? I am not even sure if the schools look at the percentage. If they do, then I am definitely at the higher part of proficient. But if not, proficient is proficient no matter how you look at it :)

Oh, I also worked at Towson University over the summer in a research program through the National Institutes of Health, so that would go on my resume as well.

Any and all opinions are more than welcome!

Sounds like your doing well and have done good things to better your chances! Unfortunately, nursing is so extremely competitive that even with the improvements you could be still just an "average" nursing applicant. However, I have heard that spring nursing admission is slightly less competitive and I think you should definitely re-apply. Whether or not you get in will depend on the applicant pool. Good Luck!!!

Im not sure where you applied to but don't limit yourself to just universities or community colleges. Apply to every school with a good program. It can be alot of work taking different test to measure up with different requirements but it's more frustrating to get a rejection. Find out what all the schools in your area require and try to fit into your life. Once you open your mind the possibilities and doors will open up.

Good Luck

For spring 2013 I am applying to Towson, UMSON, and CCBC (not in that particular order) :)

I currently go to Towson and my nursing advisor has told me the following:

1.) GPA is the most important factor

2.) They do not care if you take "extra" classes, they only need to see your GPA

3.) They factor 2 GPA's for each student: an overall GPA and a science GPA

4.) If they are deciding on admitting a student with similar GPAs they will take the higher of the TEAS scores.

5.) the Average TEAS score for the last 2 semesters is between an 80-82%

Also, unfortunately Towson does not really look into experience or personal goals of applicants..but you can send in letters of recommendation. I have heard UMSON cares more about volunteering, resumes, personal statements, and internship/cna positions than Towson does.

Thanks, TUhopeful for that piece of insight!

I just read on the website that Towson doesn't allow more than 2 retakes. Is this true? Also does anyone have any idea how universities feel about a not so stellar GPA 3.something but a serious upward trend? Like, if I apply with a GPA of 3.2 but I've brought it up significantly from a 2.0 do they look at things like that?

I have no answers for you, sweetie. No matter what...TRY, TRY, TRY!!!

Yes, Towson only allows 2 TEAS test scores per application. And as for GPA I know Towson does not look at trends just overall GPA, science GPA, and TEAS scores.

I was wondering about actual course retakes but if they dont look at upward trend im screwed. Lol

I've never retaken a class so I'm not sure about the policy on classes that are re-taken. You could call and ask.

Yeah, the program is super competitive so sadly they really only consider GPA's and scores that are the highest.
