Private LPN Schools In Maryland

U.S.A. Maryland

Updated:   Published

I have decided at my mature age to attempt training as an LPN rather than to wait for a RN spot with a college. Does anyone know whether or not there are any private LPN schools in Maryland, preferably in Baltimore? I know of some colleges that offer the LPN program, but I wanted to research more options, if possible. Thanks

I graduate January 11, 2007. But our last day of school/clinicals is Dec.21

Thank God!! I am soooo tired of doing Care Plans and from what I've heard LPNs don't even do them in the "real world". RNs that I have talked to also say they are all pre-printed and basically a waste of time. So my question is why are they( my school) torturing us with doing them when we will never do them when we start working? Sorry I had to vent I just got finished doing 8 care plans for my surgical follow through paper.

You are almost done! Its a ton of work but the time will fly by. There are so many things we had to do that we will never do again that I sort of wonder if the profs. don't just make us do that stuff as payback because they were tortured in school years ago, lol.

Tara, could you please post the number to the school. I was accepted into a Lpn school in Dc and I heard that this school's passing rate for the nclex was very low and its about 9 grand just to go.

The number to the school in Hanover, PA is (717)637-2111 talk to Dee she is wonderful and can answer any questions you may have. And by the way the class that just graduated in July had a 100% Nclex pass rate, I believe there were 24 people in that class. Good Luck!

thanks for the info. Im torn between what I want to do. Ive been in several different programs(Two) Coppin State and I went to Howard community college. That's why Im a teacher now. I looked into Villa Julie's program which is tough to get in. And I would have to take at least 3 mores science classes that i didnt have to take in undergrad, AP II over again because its more than five years old and another ethic class. For Christ's sake my degree is in psychology how many more classes do i need. but on the other hand I would have to take those same courses to get in university of md acc bsn program or any other. Dont get me wrong teaching is okay but that was not the career path i chose for myself. I really screwed up at Howard because they had a night and weekend program but they only gave you three test and of course you had to have a seventy-five. I failed Med-surg Twice the first time with at 69 and the second time with a freaking seventy three. I was so pissed. My friends from the first class are already nurses and I cant stand it. Dc's drive is going to be terrilbe and a girl like me gotta work to pay these bills. Its a hard decision but I have to think fast because the lpn program changed and instead of taking students 4 times a year they only do acceptances twice and I took the admit test back in march and kept putting it off

SpecEdteacher.. Hanover Practical Nursing Program looks like a good bet for you. Not many ADN or BSN Nursing program are going to accept students who failed out of two different Nursing Program once they see those grades on the transcript. I think the best situation is get the LPN work for a year then you can applied at any LPN-to-Bridge program at the cc or better yet apply again at Coppin, UMD, etc. It's hard getting into any college base nursing program LPN or RN, and the competition is tough, plus there only so many seats available. Once you have a licensed be it LPN or RN the road is much easier.

Note: LPN through college that is or already taken the prequisite credits, because even if you are a licensed Practical Nurse and don't have the credits and prequisites required to enter an LPN-to-RN bridge, ADN or BSN program they are not going to accept you. Some schools have requirement for gpa in sciences, overall gpa etc. But once you have LPN or RN licensed some things don't apply to you.

There are no private LPN schools in MD they are all through colleges. Personally I think it's a money thing. All the private schools they had are now closed down, which is sad considering the shortage of nurses. I live in the Woodlawn area and drive to Hanover, PA( about and hour and 10 min.) every day to attend their 1 year PN program. The school is great and much better than going to DC as there is no traffic going into or coming out of PA and my school takes Pell grants ( which the schools on DC don't, you have to pay $8000 or more by the time you start classes). I choose to do this because I didn't want to spend 2 years( because of the pre-reqs) to get my LPN, when it really only takes one year. The drive is long especially on clinical days when I have to get up at 4am, but worth it because I graduate in January!!. This year really flew by and I'm glad that I will be able to practice as a nurse in a short while. The name of the school I attend is the Hanover Practical Nursing Program and it is ran through the Hanover Public School District. Hope this helps anyone interested in becoming an LPN but frustrated with MD and there lack of options for schooling.

Yes, I totally agree with you the only LPN programs offered here is through colleges...and I know a couple people who take the trip to DC., but you chose a better option.

Tara,

What is the name of the school in PA you attend? Are there evening sessions?

April

Lynn120, I went to The Hanover Practical Nursing Program in Hanover PA. As far as I know there aren't any evening classes. The program is Mon-Fri. 8am to 4pm, but we always got out early except during clinicals. Classes start 2x/year in Jan and July. Hope this helps!

Tara

So, are you saying I can go to school to be an LPN & not complete any of the ridiculous pre-req that they have?????? (I need to go to school for an add'l year because of them!!)

Tara04,

I have heard of the Hanover PN program, I actually just requested info from them. I also requested info from the Lancaster Health Institute. Prior to starting at Hanover, had you ever heard anything about LHI?
