Johns Hopkins new grad 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello Maryland nurses :)

I'm from the Boston area, graduating with my ADN in May. I applied for the JHH clinical nurse residency program and I just got contacted for an interview! I don't know when it will be yet but I'm very excited. I'm not sure if DH and I will be able to relocate, but even the chance to interview with them is an amazing opportunity. Has anyone interviewed there and have any tips? Is anyone in the program currently? I requested the general medicine as my first choice, and critical care and surgery as my secondary choices. The job market is really tough up in the Boston area so I hope something pans out in Baltimore. Everything I've read says the Hopkins name really opens doors for you!

Congrats and thanks for answering my questions! Good luck sweetie85!

Are both of you graduated and licensed? I'm just curious since I'm still in school, and won't be done until July. So I'm just wondering if my timeline might be a little different (that is if I can even get me application in!)

Could you guys share the website you are looking at for JHH jobs?

Did you guys choose a specific location?

The Johns Hopkins Hospital; Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center; Howard County General Hospital; Sibley Memorial Hospital; Suburban Hospital

I am still confused as I am wondering if there is a way to apply to all locations.

You guys that have been interviewed selected a location?

jnak: I am a senior in my BSN program currently doing pediatrics. I will graduate May 7, 2011!

army: I applied to the main JHH in Baltimore for a nurse clinician I position. I wanted to work in pediatrics and when I looked there was a pediatric position open at the hopkinsnursing.com website. The nurse recruiter then contacted me to further specify which floor I was interested in. Hope that helps.

sweetie85, thanks for the info! That's great that they are already interviewing for people graduating in the summer.

I'll be graduating in July and I am primarily interested in adult critical care, so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for new job postings.

Sweetie85 Thank you for your info!

No problem! Glad I could help with info. I know how hard it can be to get sometimes. Good luck! :)

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Just wanted to share with all of you. I graduated back in 5/88 from FL CC,and on spring break I went to JHH for interview.. It was the first year they were hiring new grads into High Risk L&D.. and back then the med-surg for one yr was really a unwritten rule, so Dean of my CC was amazed I even got interview.. I had worked as a intern while in final yr of nursing (ADN.) in newborn nursery (paid position). I also had 3.85 GPA and letters of recomendation from every teacher. But my CC instructors and Dean thought they would be consoling me after spring break..

But I was offered the position on the spot! I was only one of 4 offered a position and only one with ADN. I was the poster child for CC for a long time.:D

I was originally from MD so moving back was not difficult, (husband and 3 kids). Program consisted of intensive orientation that was awesome. I even got relocation $$... of course now this was yrs ago...

It was the smartest decision I ever made. JHH on my resume has gotten me interviews and jobs for 20 years. I only stayed a yr and moved back to FL as my extended family was there.

My only mistake was in going to work for community hospital in FL.. JHH was 20 yrs ahead of them and it ended up after 18 months I decided I was so uncomfortable and there were no teaching hospitals any where near me.. so I got a job in home health.. missed L&D alot and still do.. but HH was a great choice for me.

Yes JHH was awesome, and yes it was priceless on my resume.. So if you get an offer there I would recommend taking it.. By the way, the year after I was hired they decided it worked so well they hired 17 new grads!

I am sure things have changed alot and not all units are the same but I just wanted to share my "Old-timers" story with all of you.. Thank you for letting me share.:D

Guys , i have applied to 3 positions at JHH.

I just got a message from a recruiter : have reviewed your application for a nursing position at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and am interested in learning more about your primary interest prior to proceeding further with the interview process.

How do I answer that?

I just want a job!

I have applied to peds and a position on hospital floor. I do not know what to say.

Can someone help me tonight?

Can any one tell me what is the medicine floor at JHH? Is the medicine floor same as med-surg

Thanks in advance!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Rehab.

army, just be honest! I applied for an Oncology position but listed my top 3 as Medicine, Critical Care and Surgical. The application online is more of a gateway to get your application in there. Just make sure you're OK with working at any of your top 3 choices because you might not get your top choice if it's a popular floor.

mdgradRN, from what I've been told, medicine and surgery are sort of separated at JHH. I interviewed for a general medical unit and while they probably have some post-op patients, the majority of patients had medical issues.

thank you so much sboston06.
