Help! best places to live

U.S.A. Maryland

Alright, i was in baltimore and it's not like philly so i can't tell which place is a good area. I've heard of several areas: charles village, federal Hill, midtown, Mt Vernon, canton, Parkville, i'm also looking at a property at ednor gardens.

It's very confusing. Yes i live in philly which is high crime but i live dowtown which is very safe so i'm a little oblivious to the crime in this city since they do a good job keeping it out of center city. Anyway, i've heard horror stories about baltimore. People tell me that it's worse than the worse parts of philly.

I'm trying to decide on where to live. I'm a city girl, but i can live i the burbs as well. No, i do not like sketchy areas. You're likely to find me walking outside at 1am in philly and so i need somewhere safe. Oh, i don't think i'll be walking around at 1am in baltimore but i still need a safe neighborhood.

Anyway, which area would you guys suggest is good for me to live? which places are safe? i don't want a place where everyone in the neighborhood has been mugged or had their house broken into. If you need my stats to fit me somwhere, I'm a new grad, single, female, no kids, not pets. I don't want an isolated area; i like a place with movie theaters and stuff to do. i really need to make a decision fast. I saw one place in Ednor gardens i think i like, does anyone have info on the area?

For those of you who live in baltimore or the surrounding burbs, or if you've ever lived there, please share your opinions, good or bad, i'd love to hear them.

thx

Glad to hear you found a place -think we are neighbors. I also chose to live in the Inner Harbor area...on Paca Street in the Inner Harbor Lofts. Got a discount too because my hospital owns the building.

As far as hair salons, there are a bunch of braid shops around Lexington Market and a few hair supply stores. I would go to the shops and ask for recommendations. I also would ask someone on the street who looks like their hair has been well managed. (I am still doing my own hair until I find a stylist that works with natural hair....)

Hey Kharing!

We are neighbors that is my crosstreet Paca. How do you like the neighborhood? I am moving in on thursday. I was told to go to Trade Secret that is in the Harborside Galleria but who knows how far down the street that is.

I love the location. I turn the corner and I am at work! I don't have a car so I appreciate the ease of taking the light rail, bus or train. Everything is within walking distance. Wish there was a near by grocery store, but there is a ton of delivery services available. (waiting for my grocery delivery now!) My apartment is such a good value. I got my loft apt for just under 1K a month - way less than rentals in the area. Hope you love it here too!

Oh I wish I could say I can walk to work I have to commute to John hopkins so I don't know how that is going to work hopefully there is a shuttle near by. Happy to hear that you love the area.

You can take the train. Lexington Market straight to the final stop east bound to Hopkins.

is that near where we live? From what I here it is not safe to walk around early mornng and late at night.

If you're doing 7-7, I think you should be fine, that would be mean, you're leaving your house at roughly 6am and getting back home roughly 8:30 to 9pm.

In the morning, I think there will be enough people milling around going to work. At night, it will be a little more deserted, so just be extra careful.

As for the hair salon, I used to go to Zena's and get Stacy as my stylist. She's pretty decent and really nice. The salon is in Mount Vernon.

BUT, I saw a girl with the most beautiful hair the other day and she goes to a salon in Catonsville called BeautifulSistas or something like that. If you can get there, I would check them out.

If you don't want to take the train the other possibility is to jump on the 35 White Marsh bus. It's close enough to Hopkins. I personally feel safer in the Lexington Mkt area versus Hopkins.

I know what you mean Kharing... I have finally got at car so my commute to Hopkins is 10 minutes or less in the morning still trying to find my way around though haven't really done anything as of yet for the weather was sucky this past weekend and orientation has been kicking my butt

still trying to find a hair dresser near by... we will see how it goes
