The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

Nursing Students Male Students

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

I'm psyched that there's so many guys on board.

We should stick together and share our experiences through this thing. I'm finishing up some of my sciences and start clinicals next fall ;)

Another guy here !!! Just getting ready to start the first semester of an ASN program on my way to BSN and hopefully CRNA. There are 6 guys out of aprox. 90 students starting Aug. 18. I am getting used to being the minority in the classes and sometimes its quite fun and definately interesting !!!

Specializes in CICu, ICU, med-surg.

Here's another one...

I'm starting the program at Florida State Univ. on the 25th. I have no idea how many other guys are in the program. Hoping I'm not the only one...

Take care all!

Hey! What about us old farts who have been Nurses for 20+ years? Do we get to join too?

Specializes in LTC & Private Duty Pediatrics.

All:

- Am a former owner-operator (trucker) for North American Van Lines. Went to college & eventually got MS-Comp Sci and now work for American General Finance (Evansville, Indiana) as a software programmer.

- Am 39 yrs old, single (hey ladies!!!), never married, no kids, and want to try this RN thing.

- Would like to eventually do the travel nurse thing. Possibly go for CRNA if grades are good enough.

John Coxey

Evansville, Indiana, USA

Congrats to all the guys who are nurses and who are becoming nurses.

hey

I'm 18 and Im starting the NEPS program in a few weeks (Nursing Education program of Saskatchewan)

I'm taking 4 year course, then working in the ER or as a Perioperative RN for a few years, then I plan to continue my education with a little experience behind me and become a Nurse Practitioner :)

I'm glad to see so many guys on this board. I am totally FREAKED out that I will be alone in my nursing classes (we have 250 seats, only 12 are guys) and I don't want to sit by myself everyday because I don't want to talk about hair or nails.

Hopefully I'll meet some girls who watch CFL lol. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people in the my classes that I'll get along with.

Good luck to everyone.

35 year old, married father of 2 here. Will be making the transition from a career as a computer programmer/analyst to nursing. I've completed most of my prereqs and am now applying for admission to nursing school either in the Spring or Fall of 2004. Long term goal is hopefully the CRNA path, but that is a long way down the road. We'll have to see how things pan out. Good luck to you all.

Hey,

I'm a "fe-MALE" :chuckle student nurse starting a BSN program in the fall...

Welcome again and the "girls" will be joining the "guy club" whether you like it or not...:roll

hey guys,

I'm a dad and father of two, and I'm also going for my BSN. I'm Still doing my pre-reqs though and should be applying to get into a program in about a year. I was kind of worried that I would be the only guy in my classes for some of the pre-reqs also, but their were quite a few other guys doing the pre-reqs with the intentions of getting into a nursing program. We all sat together in the classes and I hope I run into them again later on as they were good guys(they were ahead of me and got into a program this year) I'm also getting my BSN with the intention of going for my CRNA later(hopefully). Anyway, glad to see so many other guys getting into the field and it's good to see the reception were getting from the gals as well. Good luck to everyone(guys and gals). B.T.H

Hey guys. I just graduated from an ADN. Some of the best students that I know will make the best nurses were the guys in my class. I am so glad to see more and more male students take up nursing.
