We still need to bath male patients and clean their privates?

Just asking. I think male shouldn't be doing that since we have to lift a lot.. I am sure they will make us lift a lot.

Well, thanks all.. That's alright. Nursing assistant is not my major. I just want to be prepare for BSN.. then to NP.

Also, I am doing this because I want to help people and is rewarding.

Wow seriously? Have you ever even shadowed a nurse ever?

Just last night in the CICU I, being a male RN student, helped lift patients over 30 times through the night. Just cause you have more letters after your name does not exempt you from doing all the work. They are nurse ASSISTANTS, not your *****.

I thought two female is needed to lift one person whereas one male is needed to lift one person, correct?

No, never. I'm don't know where you heard this, but don't buy into it.

If you do, you're setting yourself up for one nasty back injury.

Care plans specify numbers of people, not genders.

Be safe.

Huh? Either you are a great troll or you dont get it.

Oh man CNA schooling. I took a 3 month CNA course last year, and boy was it unique. I can relate to cleaning mens privates in clinicals. I had a patient who would get erect when my female partner would clean him, so I had no choice but to clean this dude for the sake of my partner, and boy this dude was a perv. I mean he didn't get erect when i cleaned him, but he would always ask me if i could have a woman clean him. lol, good luck, and have fun! ha ha

I didn't even use my CNA license. I got to bored in a LTC setting. So, now I am taking the EMT-B this Summer, and have a 911 job lined up. Woo hoo.

I think Eduardo means well; maybe he is just having a hard time expressing himself.

Eduardo, technically speaking male CNA's and female CNA's do the exact same thing.

I can attest to the fact that both male and female CNA's are expected to do the same jobs. During my CNA clinicals the girls actually did a lot of lifting b/c most of our residents were women and I wasn't allowed to be in the room during a change or bath. I did my fair share being the only male in the afternoon group, I had to care for all of the males which are about 6 to 8.

To make the situation easier for my partner for the day, who was always female, I always did peri care on the male residents and would encourage the patients to wash their own private parts if they can.

Why weren't you allowed to be in the room when females were being cared for?

Well you see this class was sponsored through my High School (I just graduated) and My instructor, a RN, said that I was not allowed to be in the room or at least within view of a female patient when providing Peri care or giving a Bath and changing them. Sh said that's what the state requires of Health Occupations Students is NC. I think it's a very archaic practice, but I complied.

I bet that female patient requested for No Male CNAs. Some female patients don't mind it at all

Why.....Am.....I.....Not......Surprised?

Big Sigh.

Well, then I suppose female CNAs don't have to clean female privates because they lift alot. And RNs don't have to clean pts because they chart often and give many meds and lift a great deal.

The questions that come to mind:

Who do you think will then will clean the pts? And what is exactly specific to MALES that would omit you from cleaning them, if you are doing a great deal of lifting?
