I've been working on my pre-reqs to get into MSMC, but Everest was one of my original first choices because its like 14miles away. However, when I first decided to go into nursing last year I never went to an Everest Info session. Seeing that you all have I have a few questions. Number 1, it seems as if Everest does info sessions twice a year, August and February, is this correct? If this is the case, I obviously waited to late to go to an info session for the 2011 Spring start, so i am willing to wait it out and go to the February info session for the Fall 2011 start(I wanna be the first to be there and take my test, etc.. You know, better my chances). Also, I am confused about the pre-reqs. Now that i look at the package it seems as if the "normal" pre-reqs don't apply to this school. So when i go to the info session in Feb. the only pre-reqs i will be able to transfer are: English, A&PI, and Micro. How will me not having all the pre-reqs affect my time? Or is this program designed to have you in and out in two years including the pre-reqs? If that is the case coming in with a few pre-reqs should shorten the time, right?

Well that is something I forgot to mention. In highschool, I didn't make it far in math. I think I might have stopped at algebra. However, i think if I had a tutor for the first part of the semester I'd be fine on my own by the middle part of the class. Ok, so I think I am going to try and get an anatomy class for the fall.

Ok, so your saying will be fine with the A&P and Micro without having math skills, right? Which class would you advise me to take first with no math or science class experience what so ever? Anatomy, Physio, or Micro?

Hello all, Well I am down to my last 2 semesters of pre-reqs before I apply to nursing school. I'm finshing up Speech, English, and Dev. Psych. this fall. I met with my counseler this morning and she advised me that I should take a math assesment and math class before I begin any science classes, but I actually want to begin my science classes this fall by taking one of the few needed: Human Anatomy/Lab, Human Physiology/Lab,Chemistry/Lab,General Microbiology/Lab. These are the classes needed to get into the school I am going to apply to. The thing is my community college thinks I am going to apply to their program, but I am not. So my question is this, if I haven't taken math since highschool, which was 11 years ago, would it be smart to take one of the science classes listed this fall? Is it possible to pass any of the science classes listed without haven taken math recently? Which science class listed is the best to start with? I don't work, and have all the time to dedicate to studying and tutoring, I just really want to start the science classes now so that I will be able to apply for a fall 2011 nursing program start. Give me your in put.

I am not sure which one but it's either gonna be the Hesi or Teas. Call and ask, if not go to your local library and begin studying from both of the study guides now. Good luck, and let me know how it goes girl.

Personally I would opt. the 3 year option because for one you will probably find work faster, and for two, if you go for your ADN at Citrus, and then decide you want to go for your BSN your going to end up going longer than 1 year. The flip side to it all is Citrus' program is only $3 and financial aid could pay for most of that, whereas a University is going to be more expensive. So to be honest IDK. Do whats best for you economically.

Thank all of you for replying to my post. I think I will just apply to the positions and explain in the cover letter that I am scheduled to take an EKG course, and maybe that will be enough interest to atleast hire me and train me for free. Once again than you all.

So, I am in a rough position and need some help from some of you already working in the hospital. I am a pre-nursing student with 2 semesters to go before I go into the program. Unfortunately I was not able to get any classes this Summer, and I am currently unemployed and penny-less. With this said, I am desperately looking to find a 3-4 month health care based program that will allow me to find work in a hospital. I've been on this computer for the past 10 hours trying to figure out which entry level jobs are available in a hospital as well as what certifications are available on a 3-4 month training. All I have come up with is Transporter - Which requires a BLS certificate(Which I have). Other than that I saw Patient Tech.- Which requires a CNA certificate(Which I don't have - I took a CNA course last Summer, and had to drop it 2 weeks before my testing grrr!) So I decided to apply for the few Transport positions, and I guess I'll see what happens. What I have also been seeing is Monitor/Cardio Tech. - Which requires a basic EKG course. At this point I've found a 4 day course for $250 here in L.A. but, the thing that scares me is the fact that the terminology is new to me, and the course is accelerated. Is this Monitor/Cardio Tech. position a tough one? Should I Find an Acute Based CNA course and take it along with the EKG? Should I add a Phlebotomy? Or will I be fine with the CNA and EKG? What do I need to get a job in a hospital so that I can A) Work B) Get experience C) Get out of this hole I've been in for the past few years and live my life again. Please help me, I'd truly appreciate it. Also, Please list any other certificates or trainings I can take for approx. 3-4 months to get me in the hospital, aswell as any entry level job titles. Also, If you all know of any Acute based CNA programs in Los Angeles/San Bernidino County let me know.

Oh man CNA schooling. I took a 3 month CNA course last year, and boy was it unique. I can relate to cleaning mens privates in clinicals. I had a patient who would get erect when my female partner would clean him, so I had no choice but to clean this dude for the sake of my partner, and boy this dude was a perv. I mean he didn't get erect when i cleaned him, but he would always ask me if i could have a woman clean him. lol, good luck, and have fun! ha ha I didn't even use my CNA license. I got to bored in a LTC setting. So, now I am taking the EMT-B this Summer, and have a 911 job lined up. Woo hoo.

You hit this one on the head girl! Woo Hoo, This is so true. Your young, and like I said take some classes at a jc/cc in the fall, but this summer(I advise you start researching now) take a cna program. most of the programs are geared towards geriatrics, but there are some(depending where you live) that do train in the hospital setting vs. ltc facility setting. I did this last summer, and boy did I learn alot! Funny thing, is at the time I was still partying and not serious so I made it 9 weeks out of 11 and missed a day and got dropped, so I didn't sit for my board - but all of the knowledge I got, and doing clinicals, my gosh - it was all a rush. I love it. So, yeah dude explore your options. You can volunteer also, but get a feel of what goes on because it isn't for everyone, and say you decide to go the WCU route and get stuck, you will never forgive yourself.

I know you're young and as a Highschool student you're not thinking about the debt of $132k, but take the advice from us elders, you do not want to walk into that much debt at 18 years old. You'd literally be screwed for life. It happened to my dad, he went to ITT, took a 30k Associates degree program, failed to pay his loans, now uncle sam taxes his butt by garnishing his wages. WCU, might look nice with the new campus, and all of that, but honestly a BSN in two years sounds scary. The amount of information you will need to consume as a nurse will need to be properly digested, therefore take your time your young. Dude, if you go the traditional route you will be a registered nurse by 21, not many people can say that. This is what you need to do. Go to your local Community/Junior college. Start taking some of the general ed's needed to get into 99% of nursing schools (psych,soc., speech,english, etc..) apply for fafsa, and do that. If you do it at a full time rate you can finish the pre-reqs in a year and a half, and then apply to programs of your choice. but, atleast at this rate you will be able to maybe get 2-3k in your pocket for living expenses a semester, and get the work you need to get into a program done. I honestly am a 29 year old male, who have been unemployed since 2007. I didn't do a thing to progress my life until jan. of 2009 when i decided I wanted to be a nurse. A little over a year later I am 5 classes away from being done with pre-reqs, and applying to nursing school. Am I broke? yup! Do I wish I was nursing now? yup. Can I easily go get into debt at WCU? yup. But I'd rather not. I'm patient with getting there. I know I will be in school for the next 5 years, so why rush it. As long as i make it to the top of my goal I'm cool. Think twice about setting yourself up. I wish you the best.

Not to be negative, but this absolutely makes no sense to me. Your referring to the experience you gained while taking the time to sit thru LVN program, but you decided to not take the N-Clex. How much sense does this make? Why would you not take the N-Clex, get your LVN, then do a LVN-RN bridge? BON accredited schools offer this type of program. Why would you not do that? Instead you start nursing school from scratch? Like I said, not to be negative, but this makes no sense to me.

bro! the second day was today & It was super fun, besides the fact that my feet hurt! other then that, it was great! I love my residents! It is so funny that all that I have slept, breath, and ate for the past few months is nursing! I love it!

lol wow! you know you go through theory & everything is fun. Your learning and yadda, yadda, yadda and them boom, you hit the floor and your like ***?! lol because I am so focused on becoming a nurse I know what I have to do but at the same time i can see how people hate and drop out of the CNA program. I don't wanna go into detail but lets just say wow! 13 more clinicals lets make the best of them. Good luck to all you new CNAs, stick it out regardless.
