How many male teachers you have?

Hi,

For the first time I have more male teachers than female teachers in a semester.

The curriculum of the AA-RN program I am in goes like this:

Nurs1-basics w/in normal limits assesment skills.

-four female teachers

Nurs2-illness assessment of problems of human systems,

-four female teachers

Nurs3-critical care assessment,

-three males, and one female teacher

Nurs4-neonates/peds/psych

-four female teachers.

What I have noted is the difference in the attitudes. While every teacher in the program is very blunt in their aproach, thus far it has been my experience that the CCRN male teachers in this program, they don't smile as much, they don't make as many jokes, and they sure has hell don't have time for bs. I think I like the no nonsense aproach. I don't know maybe b/c i'm a guy as well? Just sorta thinking out loud here...

Did you, or do you now have male professors?

In your opinion, do you think the gender of your prof makes a difference?

Both genders are equally qualified, but they can both bring different perspectives to the same situation.

I have no male professors in nursing school.

Never had a male prof. in nursing. In prereqs I had a few and they were excellent, the best in fact. If clinicals count, I did have one male prof., he was absolutely the worst. He exemplified the cliche " those who can do, those who are clueless... teach."

I'm a freshman at Pitt second semester. My AnP 1 and 2 and Micro (along with some lib arts requirements profs) profs are male. The anatomy prof is awesome and by far the best prof i've had so far. The micro teacher is absolutely horrible (and not because he is hard). My intro to nursing, informatics and lifespan development teachers are all females. I'm assuming most of my clinical instructors next year will all be females but we'll see.

Absolutelty not.

It's all about the instructors attitude and knowledge towards teaching. They can be best bedside nurse, but can be a horrible educator.

I really don't think having or not having a CCRN has any bearing either?

O.k. It makes no difference. That's why no one hardly ever talks about gender in nursing. It's a non issue, like does it matter if the future president prefers steamed veggies over boiled.

Never had one in nursing but several in my pre-reqs. Would be nice to see a male instructor every now and then for nursing though.

We have one. The school is a 2 year program leading to an associates degree. There are around 150 to 170 students.

We have one in the whole dept. He is well respected, and one of the best we have

None. But there is one Male NP teaching clinicals.
