Well, having just completed my 1st semester of the nursing program, I have found that as a single guy, you are really in (at times) a very weird catch-22 being in a female-dominated student body. Although I definitely do not... Read More

Of course yes this is a Male thread, which clearly you are not. No one was asking for your female input here.
    Agreed.

Female nursing student here. I am in my mid 20's, and nursing is my life. School consumes my life, and afterwards, work will. I don't go to bars or nightclubs or anything like that.
As a single gal, with no kids, I was actually hoping for some single guys in the nursing program. Oh well. Guess I am destined for single-dom forever!

Any guys find that dating a co-worker is ok after nursing school??

Don't tell me, all the ones in your class are either married, gay, or taken?

    PRECISELY.

And even in clinicals too. It's a rather crummy outlook on the dating game for me it would seem.

You need to come be in my class. I am the opposite of all 3 of those... haha. But I'm not starting until January in Tampa. I see you have posted on some Orlando threads... are you at SCC? VCC? UCF?
I'm in Orlando at the moment myself.

UCF. I hear Tampa pays better, perhaps it's time to move? Haha

Perhaps. I don't plan on settling in Tampa after the ASN though... hoping to join the USAF after an RN-MSN (at UCF online?) if things work out.

Good luck for your plans, whatever they may be. ^_^

I was thinking about this a lot. At first I always joked about getting that kind of attention. I'm a younger guy, keep in shape, and all that.

But then I realized that in all honesty, I'll likely be taking mostly part time or online classes due to my hectic schedule. It could be a good year before I even see another face aside from exam time lol.

But I do agree about the drama issue. With wanting to go past the BSN and hopefully into CRNA-land one day, GPA is of the utmost importance. Being a single father of 2 means I'm already busy after work - study time is already at a minimum.

I'm sure I'll love the attention because working and parenting alone is tough and it means I can never get out and have a social life (I don't trust babysitters). But I'll have to make sure to cut it off at the minor ego boost. Too much of my future lies on the line

If it's understood that I have no time or interest in relationships, I imagine I might let something slide, but that's a slippery slope.

I joke about my situation being like a man trapped on a desert island somewhere with a dozen beautiful women and I've got a winning lottery ticket at home waiting for me. Yes the girls would be distracting and tempting, but women don't share men very well (the term "catfight" came to be for a reason), and as pretty as they were.. I'd want that lottery payout much more.

In other words - short term vs long term goals. I do love a pretty woman, but a lifestyle of relaxation and recreation is my goal. To allow myself to get sidetracked would only be a disservice to myself and an insult to my kids for the time they sacrificed with their dad so that he could go to school in the first place
Well said! You seem like a guy who has your priorities straight: your kids and school! Everything tends to fall into place when you aren't looking for it too. You're setting up your life right, and you will attain that well deserved life of recreation!!

I dated 1 of the 5 male nursing students in my program for the last 1.5 yrs in school, & I believe it was one of the best decisions he made while in school . He no longer had to commute! Luckily, our relationship didn't really interfere with performance in school. We broke up b/c I moved 2,000 miles away when I graduated. We are still friends; we have made trips to visit each other, and we speak regularly.

I am finishing up my BSN next year and since I am single and have no kids, I plan on following the money wherever it may take.
