I'm pretty certain I'm putting my resignation in Monday & going to home health nursing. Talked with the manager of VNA today (happens I've known this person since I was a kid, therefore I believe her to be trustworthy). If I join the team she wants to mix me up with some skilled visits - including residents in the local ALF's, some SNF hospice visits, some private home visits. By the way, I asked for the "mix" as I did not want to just do the hospice.

Sounds like a great way to keep one foot in LTC (which is where my comfort level is despite the desire for something different) and the opportunity to learn something new.

Anyone familiar with both the Oasis and MDS? Is all my MDS experience going to help at all with this Oasis beast?

I am kinda sad to miss out on the MDS 3.0 (This is NOT a sarcastic comment).

Off to read up on the home health forum.

Congratulations!

I know nothing about Oasis.....Will it be changing as well? You might want to learn MDS 3.0.....just in case.....I think there's going to be a much greater demand for MDS Coordinators with 3.0. Congrats with your new Position. :yeah:

I've been to 2 seminars already for the 3.0, but that won't make up for not actually doing it. Oasis is the home health version of the MDS...if I understand correctly, it's how they get paid.

I did home health briefly and found the OASIS to be straight forward and very logical...time consuming, for sure, but not scary or difficult. Good luck with the move. When I left to go work for the VNA, I found I really missed LTC and couldn't wait to get back. Let us know how you are doing. I for one will miss your posts here.

Nascar Nurse, I'm sure you will do a fine job with your new position. I know from previous posts, you've been looking to get out of LTC. LTC is quite draining.....sometimes it's best to just get away from it, at least for awhile. You know, in the future, you can always go back, if you so choose. Keep us posted! :)

Good luck. As an MDS coordinator with home health PT for a hip replacement, my therapist was SOOOOOOOO Happy to let me do my own OASIS. It was a lot easier than an MDS. AND it actually included vital signs, which is the one thing I think the MDS could use.

Well that was all a false hope I guess. :uhoh3:

Had a good initial interview. Was invited to go for a "shadow ride along" & that went great. Had a second (phone) interview with the head of the facility (woman I have known since I was a kid) & that went very well. Never heard NOTHING!

Finally got up the nerve to call the lady back that I knew. Very tactfully asked if there had been some misunderstanding, blah, blah...I am very interested in job, but would understand if maybe I wasn't a good fit without previous home health experience, blah, blah. She was very friendly, assured me they were very interested in me & even stated that HR had tried to contact me earlier in week. I then tactfully said my phone must have some problem, because that didn't show up on my caller ID. She then stated she would speak to HR Monday & that would get that resolved.

Never happened. Thinkin' I have been dumped. Guess ya'll are stuck with me.

A bit off topic but I get where you're at. I had an interview for a DNS position. It went wonderfully. I was invited back for a second interview with the regional director. That went wonderfully. She told me she thought I was great blah blah blah....I didn't hear anything for a week or so, so I sent an email to the administrator. He told me they were still in the deciding process but he was really glad I was still interested. Weeks go by...still no answer. I sent another email. They didn't even have the courtesy to respond. People out there are just plain rude. Go figure.
