Hi. Does anyone have any information/opinion on Golden Living Centers formerly known as Beverly Health Care? I've been getting calls from head hunters and one tells me Golden Living is wonderful and the other says it's horrible....

We have one here but I'm not sure how they are now that they are no longer Beverly. I worked there when it was a Beverly and it was not the best of situations. I haven't heard anything negative, though, since the name change.

i haven't heard anything negative since the switch, but it's going to take a while for beverly's reputation to subside. we did receive a resident today from a golden living center, and i must say, i'm impressed with the documentation and information they sent. everything was very clear, accurate, and appropriate. they even sent immunization status, which is sometimes tough for me to get. let's hope they're on the upswing. hope this helps!

Beverly Enterprises was a name that stank even way back in the '70s when I was inquiring into nurse's aid jobs---everybody I talked to told me to stay away from there because the care was bad and the working conditions even worse. Let's hope they've done a whole lot more than just change the name!

The Golden Living Center near me is far from top notch. The are currently running with about 75% agency nurses (nothing against agency nurses, but they should SUPPLEMENT the regular staff, not BE the regular staff). They have had Medicare admission bans twice that I know of and the local ER staff jokes that they would send their loved ones to live at Home Depot before they would let them be admitted to Golden Living Center. I really don't think they could be as bad as their reputation, but I would also think carefully about working there.

The Golden Living facilities in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) consistently are looking for staff (NHA,DON,ED DIR, RN, LPN, CNA) they are always changing. They do not keep what they do get. Their surveys have a lot to be desired. (MN posts all surveys online for the public).

I interviewed with them for a consultant position last year, this was after playing phone games with them forever and the person rescheduling more than once. After the interview, she stated she would contact me at the beginning of the next week..... still haven't heard a single word. That particular postion was posted on careerbuilder for about 6 months. Personally, I don't have a nice thing to say.

We have one in my town. I've worked there off and on for several years.

From what I understand, even though, it's called Golden Living now, it is STILL under the umbrella of Beverly.

When I'm on the computer for charting, EVERYthing still indicates Beverly.

The building is new and just absolutely beautiful, but there is alot left to be desired as far as the management, care, etc.

They seem to never be able to solve their problems.

They are continuously short of help.....esp CNAs. There have been days where the nurses, LPNs and RNs alike, had to work as CNAs.

When I work, which is on nights, the load is doable, which I usually am responsible for one hall, which includes the Alzheimer's unit, and the whole hall probably has maybe 50-60 patients. But it's the nightshift and don't have all that goes on during the day.

However, the CNAs they have at night are not all of good work ethics......they will not always do what they're supposed to do, like turning pts every two hours and will try to skip one round if you don't watch them.

It's a constant battle with them, to make sure they do not skip.

BUT....there are some good aides at night, who I love to work with and I can trust.

I've written aides up before, but not much is done. They don't seem to care that CNAs are insubordinate to the nurses or try to slack on their work......it's seems to be more of an attitude, "well, at least they're a warm body and we have coverage for the shift".

Some of the nurses even, who give medications....I hate to follow behind them because several are very careless about charting their MAR. Sometimes I don't know whether they've given their meds or not, so I can only be responsible for what I'm supposed to give, exactly as ordered for my shift. The MARs can be an absolute mess before the month is over. I don't really know what keeps them open on the MARs alone.

{I'm not saying I'm perfect, I know I do make mistakes, but the other job I have, I was trained better to make sure I had my meds charted. At the end of EACH month the supervisors would check our MARs and send them back to us for corrections and completion. They don't do that at Golden Living/Beverly. How they get the corrections made I don't know, because I never see any MARs coming back for corrections.}

Then there is the issues of supplies. It's a constant hunt and seek to find supplies to work with. Sometimes we don't have med cups or water cups, sometimes they get low on ACCU check strips/supplies, and with me being on nights, what pharmacy is going to come out to bring that to me in the middle of the night?

Oh, yeah....syringes to give injections......we never have the proper syringes and right size needles for injections. Sometimes I have to look all over the whole building to find one syringe/needle. It's disgusting and a waste of nursing time.

The management go to do interviews of patients for admissions to the NH...and with some of the patients they've accepted, they have ended up with lawsuits, eventually. They don't seem to learn on that either.

I could go on and on, with problems with this nursing home. And these should be solvable problems, if everyone would take some responsibility and work TOGETHER, but it doesn't happen that way.

For instance, I've actually seen nurses, who might be out of something, because it wasn't restocked by the previous nurse....and they will go to the closet to get enough of whatever it is for their shift ONLY and not restock it for the NEXT shift. They're afraid they're going to have to do something for someone else.

So..........that's some of the problems they have there.

I got so sick of it, I had to lay off of working there for awhile.

I can only take a few months of it at a time.

WOW!! No wonder the salary I was quoted was so high! The place sounds like a nightmare.

I was wondering the same and was going to post on this too.

Anyone familiar with their PA facilities?

PM me if you don't want to post openly.

WOW! Are you sure you don't work in the same Golden Living I do? We do [thank the good Lord] have a GREAT night staff, and we haven't had any law suits - but other than those points it sure sounds like my home sweet home away from home!!

Anyone have any information on the center in Shafter, California? I noticed on their website that there are a lot of job openings. In the ads, they even say they are willing to hire new grads.

Thanks for any information....

I work for Golden Living Center and my facility, just like everything else, is just what you make of it ... and put into it. I have worked pretty hard to build relationships with my CNA's and have earned some respect with them. They work hard so that we all succeed. I have been there for almost 7 months and work on the medicare hall ... lots of admissions and discharges. It definitely has its ups and downs but, overall, I know what my responsibilities they are, for the most part, doable. I absolutely hate the admission paperwork, but, aside from that, I have been satisfied with the corporation. I might not be able to speak for GLC overall (seeing that this is the only one I've worked for) but we have had some successful visits from the state and have stayed in the clear. I have heard that the reputation has not always been rosey, but, in my experience here, we are doing a pretty good job. Last visit, we had a couple minor tags and had a couple weeks to improve on some areas, but we followed through and remain problem-free. I'm sure the facilities vary a great deal, so there is no way to categorize the whole corporation based on past history, or one nurse's opinion. I'm sure there is a McDonald's somewhere that is an absolute dream to work at, and another that is a horrible nightmare. BTW, mine is in northern Indiana.
