DON salary & bonus options should I ask for upon hire.

Hi. I had an interview yesterday for a DON position in a local LTC. I'm actually kind of excited about this possibility and the facility. As the "regulars" know, I am currently an ADON, have extensive MDS experience with a total of 16 years management experience in LTC. I have always resisted this final step because my kids were young and I didn't want to miss that time with them. They are older now and I think I am ready to take the leap. But....I don't know what kind of salary to ask for & I see ads from time to time listing a bonus plan for the DON.

Could any of you estimate the % of pay you get over your ADON...10%, 20%?? Maybe this will help me figure out what is reasonable.

Also if you have a bonus plan would you share with me what this entails.

I work in a small non-profit organization(59 bed). My ADON makes about 12% less then me. I dont have any extra perks- I wish, but I dont.

My ADON makes 15% less than I do. the only extra persk I get is two additional personal days a year on top of our other vac, hol, etc

I just accepted a position as DON. Very excited and TERRIFIED! LOL.. This is at a new facility. I am currently the ADON at a 102 skilled bed facility. The new facility is roughly the same size. I was offered a 28% increase in salary.

Interesting thread. What about bonuses? Anyone getting them? Staying under budget, etc?

I used to recieve bonuses at Christmas time from my previous employer. Not now.

I was told at my interview that I would get a bonus for full beds, good survey, and staying within budget. I am under budget and had an excellent survey. I'm still waiting for the bonus. I did, however, get a gift card from the company for Nurses' Day...a first in my career.
