LPN to RN - Rue Study vs. Community College

At the job fairs we have had - Rue University has been plugging their studies. They send the books and you can complete at home in your own time. Also, you do two week-ends (I think) for clinical before sitting for the RN NCLEX. What is all of your thoughts on this way to an RN ? Or on-line program as compared to the Community College?Do hospitals, LTC and home cares accept this as a viable way to get your RN or is just passing the RN NCLEX the bottom line here. I know I have to do 1,000 hrs or so as LPN before transitioning to an RN program.This comes out to working 6 - 7 months full time.Thank you soooooo much!Carole in PA

Rue is a publishing company., You buy study guides from them and then complete a different college's on-line program, often www.excelsior.edu.

You do NOT need Rue or The COllege Network for Excelsior. I don't know about Indiana State.

rue does not have a nursing program. you would be attending excelsior and receiving your degree from them. rue is a expensive publishing company that you do not need.

I tried the RUE/EXCELSIOR program...it just didn't work for me. (I used the RUE study guides to take the excelsior exams). Perhaps I wasn't dedicated enough. I consider myself fairly intelligent but need the structured environment of college. I'm almost done with semester one and find it easier then the excelsior route. Plus, I'm going to Penn State and they didn't give me any credits for the classes I took with excelsior. Bummer, because I paid a lot of money for nothing. *sigh* Anyway, that's my 1.5 cents worth!

I thought that was the case about not really holding any clout after this Rue Education was all said and done. I have decided to go the DCCC route. I am gonna do my 1,000 hours needed and take the courses through the College. I will then graduate with an Associate Degree and in cap and gown. hehehe

I know, I need to get a life. :)

Also don't forget to inquire what CLEP credits your school will accept if you are trying to get done quickly and cheaply.

Penn state did take 3 CLEP credits of mine...and gave me automatic credit for nursing 111 and 112. I challenged nursing 113 and 114.....still waiting to see if i passed or not. Look at your program in your CC...maybe they'll give you credit for your LPN. If I passed those two tests, I really only have one year of clinicals....and some extra classes that are required for my ADN. Hope this helps! Deb;)

Is Rue Publishing telling people they are Rue University???

Google CLEP and you will find their web site. Right now they are $65 and if you can pass the exam you get credit for the course. I've done Sociology and 3 English courses and hope to do more. Their study guide is really good and I also used SAT study guides to perpare. Love them!

Each school has different policies on how many they will accept. One school I've checked into will take up to 30 clep credits toward a Bachelors but another would only take two so check your school. Good luck.

I started working on my BSN thru Univ of Phoenix. I was half thru when my costs were already at what the quote was for the entire program and I did not feel I was learning anything. I tried to transfer to a University program and they would not accept ANY credits from U of P after all the costs I had incurred with tuition and books. My advice is attend a university and go with quality in the end!
