What did I get myself into?

hello,

okay i started my very last (lpn) class, peds, this january 2 (wednesday).

i’ve had 6 quizzes so far (1 for morning, and 1 in the afternoon), total of 40-50 qs per day. okay i am doing well so far because i am studying constantly. but my problem is

i have to constantly study for peds because i want to have high quiz average (90+) before going in the final, which is like 3 weeks away.

okay here is my problem. after the final, i have to take 4 exit exams in order for my school to send all my paper works for the nclex. but if i fail one exit, i would have to come back to school and do the 8-week review and take that particular test again and i would have to add 8 more weeks on each exit failure. okay all this exit exams would start the day after the final, one exit exam per day. so how am i supposed to study/review for all four exits when i am concentrating on my peds class now? i am so overwhelmed!!

these are the exits i have to take:

  • growth & development (55 qs)
  • pharmacology (80 qs)
  • nln assessment (like nclex) (200 qs, paper test)
  • arrnet (adaptive, like nclex on the computer)

in addition to all this hectic things i have to do, my program coordinator just told us yesterday that the board would make the nclex harder starting april 1, 2008 because apparently, a lot of people are passing, so i have to pass my nclex-pn before that. ay yay yay, what did i get myself into?

please tell me there is a light after the tunnel.

oh i also work full-time (since the beginning of the 15-month program), 5 days/week 3-11 pm.

This reminds me of the final weeks of my LPN program. You literally cannot imagine getting it all done. I had 3 test in the last week of the program and the last test was on the very last day of class. It will be over soon and you will get through it. Good Luck!

Usually, the last semester is like a hazing to a college fraternity. It is hell on wheels, your head turns like Linda Blair on the Exorcist, but, somehow, it works it's way out. Take a deep breath, get a calender and write down the dates when assignments and tests are due, and plan your study and activities around that. If you can cut down your hours at work, that may be a help (but, I know that this is not feasible for most people-so if you have to scratch that idea, do so).

You WILL make it, though.

thank you pagandeva2000. given i pass all this stuff and the nclex-pn, maybe i will be like you and stay an lpn (proudly ofcourse). i don't want to go through this again with the rn program. but who knows what i will do afterwards. i don't want to plan that far anymore! i'll take it one step a time. just like the saying says "a journey starts with a single step" or something like that.

oh god please help me. :crying2:

You can do it!

I was where you are at right now last month and now I am bored to death at home. I thought I would never survive the last month of school with all of the assignments and tests that they pile on you at the end. I did it and you can do it too, just do like Pagandeva says, organize yourself, and stick to your schedule.

I thought it would never end but it did and now I am restless just waiting to take NCLEX already.

good luck!, and....you got yourself into a holy, divine profession with many roles!!!

I wonder myself, what did i do ? why am i doing this, etc, etc, and nursing school for me was surreal - almost inextremis!, hang in there, it does get better...

now i got to get off my butt after 15 years and do it again ! - the healing has finally begun!!!

It will be rough, sounds like they have it well planned out though. You can do it!!!!!

I just graduated from school on the 14th of December, and on the 21st, had a TAH/BSO. Just getting better, and one week later, my mom died. For her it was a release from a miserable life in a nursing home. Enough digressing, it was great to get my PN training finished, but now need to get off my duff and start studying for the exam! Did not know they are making the test harder on April 1st, thanks to whoever for the tip!

i know when i was that close to finishing i became obsessed with everything i still had to do, but you know what if you think about it you've been working extremely hard all along...

so a few more tests and a few more weeks & it'll be all over and you'll be like me the monda following my graduation... i took my son to school, came home & sat on the couch.... i couldn't believe i didn't have a pending test, or clinical paperwork, case study or anything... i was done...

you'll be there before you know it, hang in there and stay strong!!:pumpiron:

thank you everyone for the advice and support. i really appreciate it. i am still overwhelmed but i am feeling better. i just need to be "more" organized so i can study/review properly for all my exit exams while also studying for my last class-peds. thanks again!

i couldn't believe i didn't have a pending test, or clinical paperwork, case study or anything... i was done...

wow. i took my last exit exam (arrnet) this morning and it shut off at 61 (minimum is 60 qs and maximum is 185 qs; it is just like nclex but they took out the 20 "try out" questions) . i passed it and it said i am most likely to pass my board the first time. yay! :w00t:

anyway, i cannot believe i don't have any pending test, clinical, or any kind of home work. wow i am done! i cannot believe it. what do i do now? i have all this free time.

this board has been very supportive and i am very thankful for all your advice.

nclex here i come.
