starting LVN school in Dallas!

I am sooo excited! I will be in the first nights/weekends session at the Dallas Nursing Institute (formerly North Texas Professional Career Institute.) Classes start September 4th, for all those interested. Daytime classes start every 3 months.

I took the NET yesterday; after all the studying and reviewing I did, this turned out to be the easiest entrance exam imaginable. I scored a 92 on the Math and an 88 on the Reading Comprehension. Woohoo!

So the next hurdle is getting financial aid. I already had my FAFSA filled out and sent to the school (they were quite impressed,) so I go in at the end of July for my "money meeting." Can anyone tell me what to expect in the way of financial aid? I work full time, but I also have lots of bills that I pay every month.

Oh yea, my tuition is all-inclusive and it will be 18,500.

thanks!

hooray for no prereqs!! I feel so useless in this time period before going in for my FA mtg (on the 31st) I have to undo my sweet-ass diploma from it's expensive, air-tight, conservatory-grade frame job before I go in. any idea when the drug test is? I just can't believe they wait til the last minute to do all this important stuff! I would have liked to have been all ready and prepped a month ago! Just killing time til the 31st!

I know what you mean about waiting to the last minute :nono:. I think that we should have been able to go right to FA for our meeting. Honestly, I did not even know there was a drug test. :trout: I'm so ready to get going.:lol2:

Hey, So i was wondering how is DNI school....I guess you should be closed to being finished after reading your thread that you posted June of 07. I am considering going to DNI and really would like some input on how the teachers are..Do you feel like you are prepared for your nursing career? Are they organized? Are they really there just to make money? How was the clinicals...when i Called and spoke with them over the phone they said the clinicals where assigned to you... Did you end up with morning, or night shifts. Really interested on how you feel about the school after attending.

thanks.

i can only speak about the night class. it's 16 months, so we have about 7 to go. it is not something I would ever do again. this school is unorganized and unprofessional. We are at our wit's end with some instructors. we started with 45 students; we are down to 15. They get these instructors from Who knows where, who have never taught the material before. It all ends up a big mess half of the time. Schedule mess-ups, conflicts, no support from the administration. Clinicals aren't really for "learning" anything. It is just because we need the state-mandated hours. We do blood pressures and finger sticks. 3rd semester. Yep. each and every Saturday for 16 months we do finger sticks. but I guess it's like this at every school.. Had I to do it over again, I would not choose this school. (the night program consists of 2 nights a week for class time, 5 hours each, and a 13 hour clinical day. Saturday. nursing homes.)

GeauxNursing I had just sent you an email asking you those same questions. Well after reading your reply you don't have to answer it. I was really getting excited about that school. I guess I'll stick with my lil cna program and continue attending brookhaven for their RN program. wow dni is really dissapointing. oh well. Thanks for the heads up!

I found out about my test scores at Concord the day I took my exam, it was really easy just make sure you brush up on division. I will start the nights and weekends program in October. It is expensive but I was really impressed with the school. You may want to try and see if you can join a credit union they have very low rate loans. Good luck!
