starting LVN school in Dallas!

Published

I am sooo excited! I will be in the first nights/weekends session at the Dallas Nursing Institute (formerly North Texas Professional Career Institute.) Classes start September 4th, for all those interested. Daytime classes start every 3 months.

I took the NET yesterday; after all the studying and reviewing I did, this turned out to be the easiest entrance exam imaginable. I scored a 92 on the Math and an 88 on the Reading Comprehension. Woohoo!

So the next hurdle is getting financial aid. I already had my FAFSA filled out and sent to the school (they were quite impressed,) so I go in at the end of July for my "money meeting." Can anyone tell me what to expect in the way of financial aid? I work full time, but I also have lots of bills that I pay every month.

Oh yea, my tuition is all-inclusive and it will be 18,500.

thanks!

Congratulations to you too! I'm super concerned about the financial aid and have already started applying for scholarships, so we'll see. If y'all haven't already you seriously need to sign up for fastweb. I know people that have used it and gotten 1000's in scholarships.

Y'all pray for me, my EFC for 06-07 was 0 but now it's 1576 =/ I may not qualify for anything and have bad credit on top of it all

i've got terrible credit, too. im not too worried about getting the FA, though. if all these people can go to this school and get aid, so can we. my EFC is 8160. they begin scheduling the nights/ weekend ppl for FA meetings for the end of July. I go on the 31st, and by the time I leave that day, I will know how much money I am being offered, and how much I need to contribute. I am thinking I will apply for a Sallie Mae Loan. congrats to all! get in there and take your NET asap!

Sallie Mae loans are impossible to get without stellar credit or a co-signer with said. I used to do FA at another proprietary school. El Centro's program is less than half the cost at a little over 3k, but I want to get school over with as I struggle sometimes desperately and need to get into making a better life for me and my daughter. Working in home health care made me decide to do this as I always thought that there was no way I could be a nurse but found out otherwise and loved it. I'm still on the fence about this b/c of the cost, but we'll see.

Good luck to everyone who got in. I am also applying for DNI's Sept 4 class.

thank you for the information about the dallas nursing inst.:saint: i am trying to chose between them and concorde. i am currently attending uta and have become very frustrated in seeking my rn. i currently have fin aid so i quess i need to get on the ball to get it changed over . . .who signed you up for classes? what made you choose the school? :jester:

we haven't gotten to the scheduling part yet, and I chose DNI because they offer nights.

I could not take waiting anymore, so went ahead and took the test. Yay me, I passed. So I will be in the Sept 4th class. I know the test is not that hard, but still I am proud of my accomplishment.

I'm taking my test on the 28th. They originally said that they were only doing testing during restricted times during the day. I threw a fit (nicely) and called back a week later and they'd changed and offered Saturday testing. yay! I can't afford to take a day off work for this and my reasoning was, if the classes are scheduled at night and on saturdays for people like me...how are we supposed to start if the testing ISN'T?

blah, I'm rambling. anyway, I'm way excited, just annoyed over the price. El Centro's LVN program is STELLAR with a total cost of just over 3000.00 for everything. I'm choosing to pay a 10003840283 percent more than that to get school over with soon, and I feel like an idiot for paying an obviously ridiculous price.

Hopefully new grads get paid well. I looked at Parkland and they seem to have an awesome orientation program and good pay and benefits.

in any case, I start on Sept. 4th with y'all..yay!:balloons:

It's great to meet someone who will be in class w/me. Well, I'm not sure how many classes we are going to have.

I'm sure why they would give you a hard time about the NET. They offer it group test twice a week, but they made it very clear that they had no problem setting up another time, if needed.

Heads up, they call you and tell what your scores are the next day, Even though the paper tells you not to call, they do tell you can call.

Let me know when you get your FA appointment.

Concorde in Arlington, but if you are looking for another school that's cheaper w/o prereqs, that's going to be hard to find.

hooray for no prereqs!! I feel so useless in this time period before going in for my FA mtg (on the 31st) I have to undo my sweet-ass diploma from it's expensive, air-tight, conservatory-grade frame job before I go in. any idea when the drug test is? I just can't believe they wait til the last minute to do all this important stuff! I would have liked to have been all ready and prepped a month ago! Just killing time til the 31st!
