Smart move to go LPN then Bridge over

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I know it will be a bit redundant maybe. Thinking few thing's. I been in Healthcare for a few years now working as a mental health counselor, but want to work the other side of the coin more opportunities to grow and being involved with the patients care in nursing. I looked up perquisites and test to take. I have to take the TEAS, Anatomy 1 and 2, Chemistry, Intro to Physics for science classes all my the end of December.

That's just not going to happen most if the summer science nursing classes are filled and want to succeed instead of failing.

Thinking the LPN programs in the state have applications opened till the end of June. The program is 10 month's long runs from September to June. You knock out Anatomy 1 and 2 plus chemistry and physics as well as taking first year nursing school. After 10 month's you can work in the hospital as a PCA, which a lot of job's around here for more then LPNs. Only maybe take the exam so I can bridge over. The bridge is only six classes long two semesters.

If I don't go for the LPN probably knock out the PCA program in the fall. Then should be able to complete my perquisites for the January deadline of 2017 to be accepted into a fall 2017 program.

Wondering how many plan to bridge?

I plan on bridging over, that's one of the reasons I chose to go to LPN school, it shortens my timeline on becoming a nurse and if I choose to stop after becoming an LPN I will still be a nurse or if I choose to become an RN I can do it a lot quicker than I would have had to if I went straight RN

I'm doing it but only because the waiting list for the RN program is 4 1/2 years.

Yes the RN wait lists are the biggest challenge

Oh those wait list scare me. My fiancé is wait listed for nursing going for her LPN in the fall. I couldn't believe she was wait listed think number 15 and she had stellar grades. Think micro was only grade that went below a 4.0.

The other issue is, I can rant about our state, they combined all the community colleges into one consortium last year. So you pick two school's of your choice to increase chances of getting in. Downside is all the schools start in the fall changing over from the two start dates they had in the past.

I can't stand the wait was considering going back to school for something in computer's, but really want nursing. Been in Healthcare too long I really enjoy it and passionate about it.

I figure if can knock out the TEAS, both A&P my developmental psychology, and my micro by the end of May next year I can apply for the LPN program for the fall of 2016 The program finishes up in May. RN applications are due in December for Fall 2017. I be ahead of the game instead of doing nothing for two semesters waiting. Additionally, it eliminates wait listing from sources I heard, ha. Be great instead of finishing in 2019 I be done by May of 2018.

Only concern is I know LPNS are being phased out of the state, but I can look to other states like how can carry license over to different states. I probably will move not sure how other states are our state is mandating hospitals by 2020 to be magnet hospitals.

I work as a Psych Tech very small pool of staff in hospitals across the state. There is a night opening at a hospital in my town where I plan to take the LPN and RN program hopefully. I am really holding out on getting the job, keeping fingers crossed applied a week and 1/2 ago. If not figure will take a CNA or PCA course try to find a night gig as that so can take the LPN program during the day. I already know about venipuncture and EKGS might be a but redundant, but be a good refresher I look at it as.

Appreciate the feedback.

That is a goal of mine to bridge over once I complete the LVN program. I just submitted my online application for a LVN-RN bridge out of state.. so far ahead since I'm only 5 months in the LVN program but definitely taking it one day at a time :)

am going also for my LPN startingin August and maybe in the future going towards my RN degree, asper LPN being phase out is imposible,i was actually told my one of our instructor that it is been revised to allow LPN to work in the hospitals fiels because of the high demand of nurses and not having enough of them. byut thats just a LPN director making that statement.

Specializes in Postpartum, Mother/Baby, Comm. Health, Geriatric.

I plan on bridging through as well. I have one more semester to finish my LPN (will be done August 2015 ), getting married in October (taking the fall semester off), taking a few more pre-reqs in the winter semester, and plan on starting a LPN-RN (ADN) program in the fall of 2016. I'll work on my bachelors after that (looking for tuition reimbursement).

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I'm re-taking my sciences because they're too old then I'm applying to bridge programs. I can't wait. I wish I would've done it sooner.

I'm taking pharm this summer.

Chem & A&P 1 in the fall.

Micro in the spring.

Applying in the spring.

If all goes according to plan I'll get into nursing school I'll get into nursing school next summer/fall. :)

I'm also starting LPN program in August - 1.5 years, no summer classes or clinicals. I'll also bridge over to ADN. Final in A&P 2 is next week. Lifespan will be done this summer. The A&P and Lifespan will transfer into my LPN program, so that I will have a lot less load my first semester. Taking Micro next summer - all pre-requisites will be done.

Working as CNA night shift (will be putting out resumes for ER Tech night shift). The LTC facility I work pays entry-level LPN $25/hour - my reason for doing LPN first; faster getting into working as a nurse. The entry-level pay for RN at my LTC facility is $29/hour.

CONGRATULATIONS :) That's in my 5 year plan....lol
