I was wondering what your requirements are for nail polish and the length of nails. When I was CNA student, were we allowed to have nail polish but it had to be light pink or clear coat.

I will starting LPN school in April and forgot to ask so wanted to ask from input from fellow LPN students. I currently keep them really short and always have them in a light pink color because I cant stand dark colors and since I am also a Nail Tech, I always have a little design on my ring finger.

Well my school requires that you have short nails with a natural color, so I guess that would fall into the light pink or clear coat category. I don't see that a small design on the ring finger would matter too much as long as it is simple and not too outlandish (eg: skull & crossbones!!) LOL! It probably be so tiny that it isn't even noticable since your nails are already short anyway. I guess it really will depend on your professors and how anal they are!!

Our nails can't stick out above our fingers (when looking at your palm) and have to either be naked or in clear or light pink polish.

I have a thing for manicures. I have to have mine done. But I heard the school that I will be attending has a strict policy about nails.

wow ya'll are really lucky, trimed, clean, and bare naked nails or sent home. all rules were explained to us at the beginning of the program, so everyone knew. no polish, not even clear!

no problem with toes bc theyre covered in all white shoes. so go wild with them.

Chipped nail polish can harbor bacteria so its best to keep them unpolished. You really don't want to be bringing home nasty stuff from the hospital.

We are not allowed to have any acrylic nails, no matter how short they are. We got inspected as to how long they are, they couldn't stick out past the ends of our fingers - and NO nail polish! One girl in my class was devastated because she was "known" to have have great-looking acrylic nails but really, we don't want to scratch anybody or be carrying bacteria from patient to patient. A little design on one of our fingers would not be tolerated. Like somebody else said, in order to release our creativity, we went hog wild on our toe nails since nobody could see them!

Our school requires short nails and NO polish at all - not even clear. Yes, they check. It's a huge infection control policy in our hospital system. I have always had great nails, so this was a sacrifice for me, but I take comfort in the fact that my toenails are always gorgeous even if my fingers aren't!

:redbeathe hello. according to our contract we signed with our school you are to only have a free edge of no more than 3mm with no acrylic nails and only clean clear polish unchipped. now some morons believe that having acrylic nails that are 2-3 in long should be allowed especially when they decorate in the ugliest colors possible and put a little charm dangling off their nail. it is called professionalism!

thanks you all for the reply. I would just not put any nail polish the first day and see what the requirements are. It will be hard since I love manicuring my nails and it is a must have but I will live. My nails are extremely short because for the love of god, they grow and break all the time. I have very thin nails.

Well acrylics are not allowed in the hospital full stop as bacteria and fungus can harbor in the portion where it connects to your real nail. This as shown to be true when they were studying a CA NICU to find out why so many babies were dying. Acrylic nails...
