i have an interview next week for potential acceptance into a lpn program. can you please tell me what kind of questions you were asked during your pre-entrance interview? thanks! :)

Pretty basic stuff:

Tell us a little about yourself

Why do you want to be a nurse

Why do you think you will be a good nurse

What do you see as the difference between an RN and LPN

My interview was under 10 minutes.

I assume each school is different... My interview was an hour long - could have been longer - but the next interview was scheduled already. That person I did my interview with told me I scored perfectly - she was very nice. Any who, we had 13 questions that you could get 5 points each for. My questions were more like "give an example of a time you were faced with a hard decision to make and how you made that decision" and "what do you see to be your strengths and weaknesses?". At the end of the interview she left and I was given a pen and a sheet of paper to write in 10 words why I wanted to be an LPN...

Best thing to do is be yourself! You'll do great :)

Ah, yeah we had those two questions too, I knew I was forgetting something. We had to write like a 200-300 word essay after we did our admission test, so they read that as well as reviewed our test results before the interview.

I bet a lot of it depends on how competitive the program is for seats too. My program had a lot of applicants but they were having trouble filling seats because many were not passing the entrance tests.

My school does not interview potential students. I guess it's because I live in a pretty small town. They only require that we pass the entrance exams; and it's a first come first serve situation. When the class fills up, they begin a waiting list. I'm so happy that I made the cut. I start May 2010.

ha, some schools amaze me, an interview and/or essay for a lpn/adn/bsn program is just nuts (subjective crapola). clearly, some schools are full of themselves.

i wouldn't worry about it, it's just another useless hoop to jump through to weed people out, get it done and over with, play their game.

Ditto...but if one must play the game, you need the right answers. There is a website that prepares one for the questions asked during an employment interview, i.e., how to answer 'tell me about yourself' etc. I had the website last year and have lost it. Google 'employment questions+answers, or something like that and see what comes up.

thanks everyone! my interview is on monday & i'm just wanting to be prepared. i did really well on the entrance exam. when i go on monday for my interview, i also have a math test. i'm not worried about the math part, just the personal interview...lol... :)

I was asked to name three things about myself I considered to be strengths and three things about myself I would like to change (weaknesses), name three goals I have for the next 5 years, what I think makes a good nurse, why I was pursuing that program, what kinda of support system I have in place at home, what I do to relieve stress

One thing that came up in my interview was my promptness- the interviewer noted that I was 15 minutes early (as noted by the receptionist) for my appointment with her.

They also took note of my preparedness-there was a letter regarding what paperwork and documents to bring, and I had brought them in a folder, and dressed as if it was an executive interview- little things that definitely worked in my favor as well. Not sure if it was on their checklist, but it helped make a good impression.

I was asked a bit about my background- being an older student and having been in an internet business management position prior to applying for nursing school, etc. They asked about my support system, reliability for transportation and child care, and whether my physical and vaccinations were up to date. The interview was maybe 15 minutes in my case, my entrance test having done most of the work for me. Starting class in about 2 months.

I've read all of the answers and i just wanted to say THANK YOU! I am so glad that someone asked this question because i am nervous for my interview..I found out that i passed my test but they are waiting until after the holidays to schedule interviews..i knew i had to dress accordingly but was wondering what would be said..what to bring..i think i'm a step closer to be prepared. hopefully i pass this interview..im ready to start school. Its not until March 2011

Thanks. This helped a lot!!! It gave me an idea of the type of questions the admission panel will ask an applicant. How does one stand out? What makes an 'ideal' applicant?
