I took the Nclex-pn on January 25,2012, which was Wednesday and it was really hard. I only had 3 drugs that I had never heard of so i just looked at the prefix and related it to the category of drugs. My test had like 7 or 8 select all that apply and it was really hard to choose them. I tell you one thing, I tried to study and prepare for the exam for like 3 weeks and you would be better just taking it as soon as you get out of school because you just really cannot study for it. The questions I had, you just had to be good at critical thinking. I dont know if I passed the test or not because Louisiana does not participate in quick results, but I did do the Pearson Vue Trick and got the supposedly good pop up. I left out of there thinking that I bombed the test. Its like I knew a few answers but I also felt like I was guessing alot. I took my time and read each question slowly with the headphones covering my ears the entire time. I should get my results tomorrow, I hope that I'll be blessed to call myself an LPN. Sure, it will motivate them to take this program serious. I would not be ashamed of it either because a lot of people, including myself, went to school and played around. Sometimes it just takes us awhile to grow up and mature a bit before we are ready to make career decisions. I think you will do great this time. I feel like this is my last opportunity at school and a career, so I am not letting anything get in my way for 18 months.

To Prayerleadsme Congratulation's, but I am shocked that you are only taking one class. I wish I was that lucky. I think that when you go into your fall semester you will really enjoy it. LTC is a great school and our teacher's are really making it easy to understand. Hopefully, we will both make it through in the end. Right now we have 40 student's, but I will let you know how many we have once the the semester is over...lol! It would really be a site to see all 40 of us make it though. Goodluck and best wishes:)

Well, our program have always ran between 16 or 18 months. I would rather hurry up and get it out of the way in 12 months,but it is a heck of a lot of information to retain. Our school has a very high success rate on the NCLEX too, so I guess they are doing a good job.

Hello everyone, I just thought I would fill the future LPN student's in on how my first week of LPN school went. First of all, I attend Louisiana Technical College's 18 month program. It started with the teacher's introducing themselves, then the student's. Everyone was so nervous and quiet the first day, but that soon changed. The classes that I am enrolled in now are A&P, which includes Medical Terminology, Practical Nursing Prospectives(PNP), and Nutrition. To tell you the truth, the program is what you make of it and how much you can handle. I planned on working at Wal-Mart in the evenings and on the weekends, but that did not work out. I ended up canceling my evening shifts during the week and just working on the weekends. The schoolwork will pile up really fast, I mean we started on last Thurs. on the 27th and we have already had 5 tests. That was a little too much on me, so I had to cut back, but maybe you can handle it. In order to succeed in our classes and pass the tests, you have to know the entire chapters. The test question's could come from any section and they expect you to know it, plus the extra notes they give you in class. The good thing about it is that they are required to teach and test us on 90% of what's is in our books, so if you study hard all the information is there. I have done fairly well on all of my tests so far, 3 A's and 2 B's. There are several student's in the class who took it lightly and have made horrible grades, but they now know what they have to do to survive these classes. It is fast paced, but if you put yourself on a steady schedule and make sure you take a few naps in between and relax, you can do it. I am not the most intelligent person in the world, but I do have enough common sense to know what I have to do to succeed at my dream to become a nurse. I am really enjoying it so far and good luck to all of the future nurses out there:)

I have aleady had my orientation two weeks ago and now I am just waiting to start!

I am starting my LPN program on May 27, 2010. I am not as nervous right now, but I know as the time gets closer I will not know what to do with myself. I am happy to have my part-time job set up to help me through this finacially. I know that I do not need any extra stress, so having this job will benefit me a lot. I am focused and I know that this is going to be quite a journey for me for 18 months. I am just going to be positive and believe that anything is possible. Good luck to my fellow May 2010 starts!!!

Many people tell me to brush up on basic math skills like fractions, multiplication and division, and conversions or metric system. I also purchased some great books from Amazon and Barnes and Noble, they're great. They include, Math for Meds, Calculate with Confidence, and Pharmacology Math: an Incredibly Easy Work-Out. I purchased Pharmacology Notecards by Mosby as well and I love them. I start in May and I want to be prepared as well...Good Luck!

I will pray for you Terika. I had to retake the Math portion once and and I passed. Yeah, some of the questions on their test I hadn't seen or even thought about since high school. I just searched this site, and got a book from the library to refresh my memory and it actually helped. Just keep the faith.

Wow @ TheCommuter! I do not see how you can do that. I guess if you have the "Drive" you can do anything.

My school does not interview potential students. I guess it's because I live in a pretty small town. They only require that we pass the entrance exams; and it's a first come first serve situation. When the class fills up, they begin a waiting list. I'm so happy that I made the cut. I start May 2010.
