dealing with racism on dementia unit?
I was wondering if you guys could put in your opinion or some advice. I work on a dementia unit a state nursing home. We recently admitted an african american male to our floor and since coming he has recieved some abuse from other residents. It mainly comes from three residents who, among other things, spit, swear, threaten and harrass this poor man. We even had an incident with one of the residents writing nasty words on the wall in his room. We make sure clients are separated to reduce the chance of problems but the new patient is begining to get depressed and is often very upset and wants to go home. Anyway have an idea how this could be handled better to give this client a better quality of life.

Studying Medications for NCLEX
This is part is driving me crazy and I wonder if you guys have any tips. Im creating flash cards but I feel like I'm spending to much time on Meds. The books I'm using literally has about 500 meds that I need to memorize and learn side effects for and whats worse is my friends who have taken the test say that the nclex tests on some of the most random medications in the book. How can I learn what I need to for the meds and still have time to study EVERYTHING ELSE I need to pass the nclex?

Want to guarantee NCLEX passing, what do I do?
I took my Nclex in early July and to my disappointment failed with 75 questions. I was extremly disappointed with myself and be myself up pretty hard for a week or so. I really under estimated this test I think. I started preping about 10 days before the test using only the Kaplan book review and a CD one of my professors gave me. All together I did about 1500 prep questions before the test. Im now looking to take a course but dont know which to take. The kaplan book didnt help me obviously. I felt the hints they gave on how to break down questions apply to only 10% of the questions. Is the kaplan course similiar or will it better prepare me? Ive heard the kaplan course is good but I dont want to buy the kaplan course if its the book all over again, just more questions. Does anyone have any advice? Again please dont make fun of me for failing in 75 questions, I already feel like an idiot. I'm motivated and ready to bust my butt to do what I need to do to get this behind me. I just need a fool proof plan to play by.

NCLEX leaving me feeling like an idiot
I thook the test last saturday and found out tuesday I failed my first attempt in 75 questions. I feel like a complete idiot especially when I see stats that show 86% of people have no problem passing this test the first time. Im also becoming very discouraged because Im see that many first time takers who did no pass are now posting about having taken the exam for the 3rd 4th and 5th time. The more i read the more im begining to believe that im in the long haul if I ever want to pass the test.

NCLEX question from my exam
i took the test last saturday and just recieved the news that i failed. needless to say today has been really long and tough to get through. i hate that i cant go back and see the questions i got wrong on the test to see my flawed logic. id like to run one by you guys that sticks in my head and see what you guys would have done. the question was a priority question asking which patient entering the er will you attend to first. questions arent word for word but are very close. i immediatley eliminated c and d and then was lead by my critical think to first assess the patient with singed nose hairs and hoarness. i figured this patient may have smoke inhilation from a fire and could potentially have an issue with airway or breathing. like i said i failed the nclex to my disappointment so apparently my critical thinking skills are about as sharp as a donkey. let me know what you think. terms of service reminder: please do not post nclex test questions. thank you for your cooperation.
