Hi guys! I am taking the entrance exam for the LPN program at ES BOCES in 11 days. I have been studying a lot but I'm still really nervous about the math section. Can anyone give me some examples of what types of questions will be on the test? I am mostly worried about the word problems. I'm really wondering about the difficulty level. Thanks for the help!!!

Just wondering because these are from a practice teas test and they are a bit out of my league. :-/

Also I just heard that full time day students have to wear their uniform on both Mon & Tues now (they said we weren't supposed to start wearing it until the 11th) and Night Time students have to wear it on (Tues?) night I believe. Figured I'd give you guys the heads up. SOOO many people were freaking out about it today you would have thought a major catastrophe went down or something lol. Glad I got my uniform early (& a HUGE thank you to you for telling me everything I needed to know& wear to get stuff etc.) It def helped out, I was happy that I was one of the cool, calm, collected ones amongst the chaos haha.[/quote']

Yea we already knew about the uniform, they are having a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday so they want to take pictures. Not a big deal to us, we have already worn ours a thousand times. I'm not sure why you guys have to wear yours on monday though, maybe they want to take pictures of the school to put on the website, who knows. Make sure your patch is on the left shoulder, 2 fingers down from the shoulder seam. Glad to hear all is going well with your studies! Buckle down hard now though, med-surg is hard core!!! And when you get to nutrition study really hard because a lot of people failed out last year because of nutrition. I'll let you know stuff as I think of them.

Hello I am a new student in pn class. Im having a very hard time in this first block. Can anyone please give me any tips on what too study ? Plz help and i really need a mentor here in Phoenix Az. Im in desperate need oc more resources.

Fundamentals is turning out to be one of my hardest classes =/ Never saw that coming (lol I'm scared that now I just jinxed A&P & Vocational Adjust.) It's strictly the test's in Fundamentals that are basically tripping me up =/. It's so weird because I do all of my outlines, make tons of hard flashcards & answer all the questions at the end of the chapter so that I'm sure I comprehend it, ( I even look for other questions that I think may help me on the test/make me aware of what to look out for during tests.) However my grade isn't even close to where I really want it to be & it barely what I need it to be right now. Was fundamentals really hard for most people in you're class for the first few weeks?(everyone in my class seems to be struggling with it now after the last test.)

I'm so scared that if I take even more time away from studying for A&P & Vocational Adjust that those grades will start to really suffer (especially A&P) and I really don't want that to happen either. It's so hard to find a balance each night while studying/doing h.w. I know you recommended an awesome A&P book (thank you again btw!) Do you know of any possible Fundamental books by any chance ? I'm thinking about getting an nclex book super soon, because I feel like the way the test questions seem to "trick" me will be similar to the nclex. Maybe I can utilize the nclex book to help me with the fundamentals tests in some weird way? lol (Hopefully tI'm explaining it right & it made sense lol.)

Fundamentals wasn't a problem. Maybe you are studying the wrong things. Make sure you study all of the nursing considerations, there's always a ton of them at the back of each chapter. Fundamental tests are going to ask you what you would do in a situation, it's never black and white like a&p and vocation. So look at the procedures, like how you would give the bed bath, look at the steps for each situation. I'm not sure where you are at in fundamentals, maybe you just took the one with microbiology on it? So just concentrate on performing procedures, how far you would stick something or which way would you position something and so on. There isn't any book, just the textbook and workbook. Definitely use the textbook. I don't know which class you are in, but there is a guy in one of the classes who was in my class last year and I email him all of my notes for all of the subjects. Maybe he's in your class? Vocation is easy you have a final coming up right? but get ready for nutrition! Fundamentals is long but you'll get the hang of the tests and how to study for them. Just remember, think of actually doing the procedure and go from there, read carefully because they always find a way to ask a question that is barely in the chapter! I hope that helps!!

I just bought a TEAS study guide at barnes and nobles to to review for the TABE test. I need to brush up on the english/vocab. That was $50 out of my pocket, but I know it'll be worth it! :)

Anyone have any advice for nutrition? My whole class is struggling and I'm worried I might fail the first test! Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Kconner126 would def be the best person to ask (she's helped me so much.) We just started Nutrition this week and have our 1st test on the 30th so we haven't gone crazy in depth yet (but I'm sure it's gonna be really stressful.)

Personally anything in the book I don't understand I google. I also make tons of flashcards about everything (including the questions in the back of the book.) Try looking at ATI (that's surprisingly really helped me sometimes) also, I know it sounds silly but I like to look at quizlet & see there flashcards and "mini test's" that they have, if the questions are decent then I also write them down on flashcards and add them to my stack. In fact sometimes I just put the book and the chapter into google and helpful things will usually pop up. My classmates think I go overboard but the way I see it is even if a particular question isn't on our test, I'm sure the info will be useful at some point in time, learning is never a bad thing.

Oh, and I also try & give myself "mini quizzes" just to see how I do & it usually helps.

Good luck & I'm sure you will do fine =)

Nutrition can get tough, we lost people last year because of it. A lot of it is memorization unfortunately, but you can still put some logic into it. The workbook is very helpful as well as the questions at the back of the chapters. Definitely know your fat solubles ADEK. Know your fiber insoluble and soluble and the difference between it. Try and simplify the chapters. Knowing the difference between the vegetarians was always on the tests as well as cultural nutrition. If you do the workbook and study that you will be in good shape. 30 is long but not that bad if you simplify it. Use the workbook as your guide. Make sure you study the things you don't know, don't waste time studying the things you already know! Your quizzes are a good way to figure out what you need to study. Good luck!

Did you find my friend that was in the program last year with me that I send my notes to?

Did you find my friend that was in the program last year with me that I send my notes to?

No, unfortunately =( I wanted to ask but I didn't want it to sound like I was putting anyone on the spot lol.

Also, my class has I guess officially started to form their own little groups etc and let's just say I'm not one of the "popular ones" lol. I don't really talk that much to people on "the other side" of the room much during class & they are always going off to lunch or study group together in a flash so it's hard to get a hold of them long enough to ask them any questions lol =/ (I tend to walk to the beat of my own drum alot, however, I have managed to luckily make a few close friends so I'm pretty happy about that.)

Actually, it literally just came to me! There is a really nice girl in my class that had said she had some friends that were in the program before & that's how she ended up getting a workbook etc (we for some odd reason don't have actual workbooks this yr, just the prep-u.) I remember a few weeks ago that I expressed that I felt like I had no direction for the essay coming up that we are supposed to write & that I wish it was possible to see an example etc (I'm a visual learner.) She helped & explained it to me a little more in depth & mentioned that she read one of her friends essays & that it helped her out as far as formatting etc (or something to that effect.)

So maybe it's the same person?

Well my friend is guy so I don't think it's the same person. And what?!!! No workbooks?!! I am shocked and disappointed for you. We have workbooks for level II and we had them last year. What essay do you have to write? For which class? It's good to stay out of the cliques, at least that's what I find. You can actually go online, amazon, and get the workbook. I recommend getting edition 9 because it has the answers in it. I got mine last year for $5. It really is helpful and you will see the same questions on the tests. There a lot of clique-ish people in level I this year I've noticed. I'm not one for that at all either. Too much drama for me lol.
