LPN Entrance Exam

Hi guys! I am taking the entrance exam for the LPN program at ES BOCES in 11 days. I have been studying a lot but I'm still really nervous about the math section. Can anyone give me some examples of what types of questions will be on the test? I am mostly worried about the word problems. I'm really wondering about the difficulty level. Thanks for the help!!!

Just wondering because these are from a practice teas test and they are a bit out of my league. :-/

On your results page does it say how many attempts you've made at the test? Some do some dont.

Yea, on the time summary it does and on the module report. I feel so stupid because I keep stressing out about not getting 100% I took it again and I actually did worse, then of course I started freaking out because I'm a "perfectionist" and then I took it again and I luckily got back up to the score that I got the 1st time (still not 100 though so I'm def not happy.) At this point it shows that I've taken it 3 times & I don't want to take it anymore because I don't want the teacher thinking that I only got a decent score because I've taken it so many times. Ugh, I know I shouldn't be beating myself up, but I feel like such a loser. This was an "easy 100" there's no acceptable reason why after taking it 3 times, I shouldn't have 100% =(

The questions on ati are similar to the ones on the board. You haven't learned how to answer those type if questions yet so don't beat yourself up. With these kind of questions there are always 2 right answers, you have to pick the better answer. You have to figure out what the question is really asking You. You haven't learned how to do that yet, don't freak out at all. Boces has their tests that really count for your grade, ati is preparing you. Why do you think you are able to take it over and over again, so you can learn. Just calm down and forget about it. School is in 3 days you don't need more stress going into it.

Don't feel bad! I took my prepu test yesterday and missed two. I feel really stupid for that because I had all my notes right in front of me and had an hour to take it. If I would have slowed down and used my notes I would have made 100! But you know we are just starting out and we have to learn how these tests work and get into the groove of things. There will be plenty of time to raise our scores! See you Monday!

Thanks Guys. I decided to finally shut the computer off at 5am and go to bed haha. I might re-take them at the end of the weekend, but only when I'm more calm and not super stressed lol. I hate the way the questions are worded (it always felt like a trick, and it makes me over-analyze) which of course is the point and should have been completely expected. I'm finally getting to the prep u today. I'm just glad I have all of my outlining done, my hand was killing me! I got my uniform, shoes, extra supplies etc yesterday (lol,I got the petite and they are so long!) benefits of only being 5'1. It was a lot better then I expected overall though, so I can't really complain. I'm 95% prepared and ready to go, the rest is just more mental preparation and trying to calm my nerves!!

Ahhh, see you monday!! (if you you see a short brunette that's turned pale and looks like she's about to be sick at any moment, that would be me!) p.s Konner 126-still wish you were going to be in our class =(

Just wondering how everyone's doing. Liking classes so far?

Just wondering how everyone's doing. Liking classes so far?

It took some getting used to, but I like it more then I did in the beginning. I'm more used to the long days and having (well for me anyway) to wake up at 5:45am. The 1st week was funny, because I kept "switching" in my head who my favorite teacher was. Lol, every time I met a new one, I would be in "awe" of them, & basically want to soak up any kind of knowledge/advice that I possibly from them, kinda like a sponge.

Lol, in fact it's still happening, because I thought that my anatomy teacher was pretty awesome (still do) & that our class had totally lucked out, however one day this week we had to go into another classroom because she was out and we met a different anatomy teacher. Well! All I can say is that, this lady totally floored me (in a great way.) I LOVED her style of teaching, especially because I feel like I don't always "learn" the same way as everyone else seems too. Most people go from point A to B, and B to C, I however go from point B to C, then A, then back to B, and then finally back to A to make sure I really have it down. I rarely find a teacher that "thinks outside the box" like me & can keep my brain "entertained" enough to learn for a long period of time lol. I still really like my actual anatomy teacher a whole bunch, I'm just really happy I met the other teacher & that she stays after for extra help! =) I really think that utilizing both of the teachers ,might be one of my only chances at actually passing A&P w/ a half-way decent grade. Like the best of both worlds.

I really like my Vocab Adjust teacher too, at first I think some of the other students in my class were "iffy" about her, but now that we have gotten to know her, & her teaching style a little better & I think it's safe to say most of us really enjoy her now & appreciate the extra things that she takes the time to make sure we know.

The only teacher that I go back & forth will is my fundamentals teacher. I literally can't decide if I absolutely love her, or if I'm gonna end up wanting to throw in the towel because of her class (which strangely enough in my experience usually means that after the tears & inner temper tantrums are over, I'm gonna end up loving her.) All I know, is that she's def making me work super hard already & what I thought was going to be a relatively easy class (compared to A&P) is anything but. I def underestimated it & the test I had on Thurs was a rude awakening call. I was putting most of my worry, anxiety, stress geared toward A&P, but as it turns out I now have TWO super hard classes that I'm going to have to work extremely hard to pass (hopefully I don't completely jinx myself w/ vocab now lol.)

Lol, that pretty much sums up my whole lengthy synopsis haha. How are your classes and teachers so far? Are you enjoying it? Super stressed yet? lol

You must mean mrs M. She is the absolute best teacher anyone can have. If u have her then you are lucky, I had her last year and everything she taught me had been tremendously helpful for medicine. Do everything she says, I'm telling you, you will be successful if you do! My year started out by having to go to clinical the second day which was awesome. Medicine is no joke, so make sure you understand A&P now bc it'll all come back for medicine and they will not go over A&P again!! Good luck

Yes!! That is her! Omg, she really is the best! I LOVE the way she teaches! I also love that she gives advice & interesting scenarios about how whatever we are learning about in a&p will directly pertain to the field & how we need to apply it. She "visually" makes me see what each body part does & how it's directly involved in nursing & gives a real-life scenario. The woman is absolutely amazing! She reminds me of my favorite teacher/mentor in MA school Mrs. L,who was one of the only teachers that was able to really get through to me & really teach me everything. Teachers like that are such a gift & a godsend.

You're so lucky to be in clinical!! Ahhh I'm so jealous! How is it!!!??? I'm going to be picking apart your brain for sure & asking a million questions (hope you don't mind) when I start clinical.

That's why I'm so nervous about A&P. It's weird each organ & body part I def know things about, BUT I have major problems when it comes to knowing every single important detail about each specific one. I almost wish I was the type to know several organs and body parts extremely well & not really know much about other ones. I know it sounds strange but I feel like that would actually benefit me more in regards to trying to pass A&P. I have a huge A&P test tomorrow & I'm definitely freaking out & going over my flash cards a million times (all while trying to do my outlines for the stuff we are learning in class this week, it's just hard trying to to confuse to two lol.) I might just end up finishing my outlines for tomorrow after the test, & focus strictly on everything for the test tomorrow. So many options lol.

Thank you for the tips =) and Good Luck to you as well, I'm sure you will be great!!!

What do you have tomorrow respiratory? It's not so bad. The tests kinda get harder. It's too bad you don't have mrs m normally because then you wouldn't have to worry about a thing. My advice to you is to do the questions at the end of each chapter and definitely do the workbook. If you haven't gotten the Barron's book then get it! Other than that just study and keep it simple. The book gives a lot of information, stay focused on the important stuff and the rest will make sense. Don't memorize it, learn it. It will make medicine a lot easier once you get there. Good luck on your exam!

We just finished respiratory & now we are on cardiovascular, lymphatic & endocrine system. The next test will be on all 4 of them (including respiratory.) SOOO nerve-wracking. The outlines are driving me crazy, because after taking notes (ALL day) it's just not possible to physically hand-write 3-4 (minimum) outlines a night. Sometimes I do flashcards (usually that works out just as well for me.) I always read-& highlight (like a crazy person lol) the chapters & stick little "sticky notes" in it, if I have a question or want to remind myself of something or if I come up with a mnemonic.

Omg, Prep-U is like my best friend!! It's such a big help! Plus, it lets me see (in a very general way) how I'm ranking/keeping up with the rest of my class without coming off nosy or overly competitive. I just wish that we were able to do the practice quizzes by chapters rather then unit.

Also, yes I really have to invest in that book very soon (my car is in the shop this week, so $ is a little tight this month.)

Oh,and Thanks! I have no idea how I did yet (they weren't graded by the time we left) but a part of me kinda doesn't want to know, because of my last test experience haha.

Cardio isn't that bad, just understand how the heart works and be able to follow a drop of blood through the heart, lymphatic is a one way cleaning hwy and isn't hard at all and endocrine just know your targets and you'll be fine. Like I said, as long as you "learn" it and not memorize it, it should all start making sense.

Ahhh so I ended up getting an 88% on my A&P test (91% on my vocational.) Omg, I'm SOOO happy (I have the respiratory A&P test on Mon though) :nailbiting: The only thing that makes me nervous, is the fact that I literally had to study SOOOO hard for that test (which, I know is what I'm supposed to do lol.) However, if the tests are only going to get harder, mamma mia, that's some scary stuff lol.

I have to work on the following a drop of blood through the heart (I keep confusing it with the 12 steps of how O2 flows through the heart.)

Also I just heard that full time day students have to wear their uniform on both Mon & Tues now (they said we weren't supposed to start wearing it until the 11th) and Night Time students have to wear it on (Tues?) night I believe. Figured I'd give you guys the heads up. SOOO many people were freaking out about it today, you would have thought a major catastrophe went down or something lol. Glad I got my uniform early (& a HUGE thank you to you for telling me everything I needed to know& wear to get stuff etc.) It def helped out, I was happy that I was one of the cool, calm, collected ones amongst the chaos haha.
